Recommend me a PC game

One of my favorite games back when I had a Mac was an implementation of the the board game Risk. Does something like this exist for PC’s?

The official Risk 2 game from Atari is probably your best bet. It’s only10 bucks.

Risk is a commercial product (either trademarked or copyrighted or whatever) so people can’t just make their own exact copies, but there are lots of very similar shareware/freeware/online implementations.

Or you could get the $20 “6 Times the Fun” collection which has Risk 2 and five other games: Monopoly, Life, Sorry!, Battleship and Clue.

If you haven’t already checked them out, you should definitely take a look at the Civilization series. As a turn-based game pitting different world factions against each other, the basic premise is similar to Risk. You choose a civilization and a basic world structure (i.e. planet size, vegetation density, etc.) and then play that society from the stone age through modern times. The initial learning curve is a little steep, but you can kiss countless hours goodbye once you get into it, and you’ll never look back at Risk again.

Here’s a link to a review for the latest version (IV):

Here’s a link to a review of the previous version, which will run on just about any (Windows 98/2000/XP-based) system:

Oh, and you can often find CivIII on the $10 rack at CompUSA (CivIV is new, and runs about $40 - $50)

Also, you can usually find free demo versions of these things:

Civilization III Gold Edition demo
