I’m in the Albany/Troy area of NY for business, and tomorrow we want to go out to some place nice (on the company dime). Right now we’re looking at 677 Prime, Barnsider, and Jack’s Oyster House. Some place medium-high to high end, not Italian.
Of those you mentioned, Jack’s is the standout. Old-fashioned and attentive service (with black-tie waiters), and great food. One of the most high end restaurants around (with only Le Serre a serious competitor), but you’ll get a memorable meal.
Barnsider is good, but Jack’s is what you’ll talk about when you get home.
The only place I’ve eaten at in the area that matches the description is Scrimshaw, in a hotel by the Albany Airport. I had the steak and don’t have anything to complain about it (it’s a steak, ideally it should taste like all other good steaks,) but the service was excellent.
Ended up going to 677 Prime. Amazing steaks and food, great wine list and booze selections. Service was definitely subpar but we were not complaining after the drinks.
