Yes it is, and because you are obviously a person of great taste, I will share with you the ultimate 'rita recipe.
The following makes 1 blender full.
1/3 cup Triple Sec or Cointreau
2/3 cups of Tequila (don’t use the expensive stuff, any thing is fine.)
1-1/3 cup of liquid mix (I use La Paz when I can find it, or any other liquid 'rita mixer, use sweet and sour mix if nothing else is available)
Ice to fill the blender jar.
blend and serve.
For those of you with a math bent, that is
1 part Triple Sec
2 Parts Tequila
4 parts mix
Just in case you have a different sized blender.
Trust me when I tell you, you will not taste the alcohol, and will love the taste.
I have a girlfriend who makes hers with Cointreau, Tequila, and fresh squeezed limes. No margarita mix. There may be something else in there.
We made a ginger mojito by the pitcher around here that is asked for over and over again. 4 parts ginger ale, 1 part rum, 1 part simple syrup, a few drops of mint extract.
Listen to **Dangerosa **- she is wise. Stop with the margarita mixes, people, and learn how they’re really made. They’re fantastic. If you have to sweeten, add some sugar or simple syrup. The margarita mixes I’ve had I usually find to be too sweet and syrupy. And green - true margaritas aren’t the toxic green the mixes would have you believe.
Silver Tyger Girl if you do decide you want to try margarita’s, since you are somewhat local, I can point you in the direction of 2 or 3 places that make the best I have had. Try a good one, on the rocks, never blended, and you should be happy.
Schnapps in any flavor is always a good choice too, if all you are looking for is to not taste alcohol. (too sweet for my taste, but YMMV)
Hot chocolate? On a hot day, cocoa powder mixed with cold milk? Or maybe a milkshake?
If you really want the liqueur, add a little bit of Grand Marnier to your hot chocolate. In the milkshake or cold chocolate milk, put in some crème de cacao.
Oh GOD in the name of all that’s holy… why would you put amaretto in a margarita?
Sounds like a decent recipe, except for the amaretto & water.
I’d probably drop the amaretto & water, use the Bacardi or whoever margarita mix and hit it with a full can of tequila, about 1/2-3/4 can of fresh squeezed key lime juice, less triple-sec (maybe 6 tablespoons?), and sugar to taste.
Probably most important in making a margarita not taste like alcohol is to shell out the dough for GOOD tequila. Like others have said, Cazadores is good, so are Patron, Herradura, El Jimador and some of the higher-end Sauza ones.
Personally, I’m kind of partial to Herradura Reposado, but that assumes you want to taste your tequila.
If you’re wanting not to taste it, get Silver tequila- it’s the mildest of the bunch. You probably can’t go too far wrong with Patron silver or Cazadores silver.
ah. here’s a good one, obviously for a party, tho.
1 gallon vanilla ice cream
1/4 c. of half and half
1/2 shot brandy
2 1/2 shots creme de cocoa
here’s the recipe per glass:
fill a blender about halfway with softened ice cream. add a 1/4 *or less * shot of brandy and a 1/4 *or less * of the creme de cocoa. you don’t need much, otherwise it’ll overpower the drink. add one or two shots of the cream.
blend well. pour off and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings (i add milk chocolate shavings just because i can.:D) or a stick of chocolate cookie wafer and serve. this particular recipe doesn’t mention nutmeg, which i don’t care for, anyway.
i get one every once in a while at christmastime. go easy on the booze and it’s a seriously major treat.
oh, and how about woodchuck cider?
very tasty and i don’t taste the alcohol in them at all. ymmv.
don’t, repeat, **don’t ** get the granny smith apple version. they’re awful!
Last night I mixed Rose’s Passion Fruit Mojito mix with vodka (about half and half mixed in a shaker with ice, but served neat), poured it into a cold martini glass and garnished with a slice of lime. It was very pretty and didn’t taste of alcohol at all, which was a disappointment for me, I like alcohol, but made me think of you and this thread.
