Recommend me some Doctor Who fiction, please

So yeah, I’m late to the party. I just started watching Doctor Who on Netflix (the episodes featuring the Tenth Doctor, David Tennant) and I’m already hooked!

I notice that there’s quite a bit of Doctor Who fiction out there (novels and such) and I’d like to read some of it, but I get the impression that, like Sherlock Holmes fic, there’s a lot of crap out there drowning out the good stuff. (Maybe I’m wrong, but looking at Amazon it looks like there’s a lot of self-published stuff which can be very hit-or-miss).

So…can anybody recommend some good novels? Preferably featuring the Tenth Doctor since he’s the one I’m currently into, but anything would be great. Note that I’m not in any way opposed to self published fic (since I’ve done it myself, I’d love to give good authors a chance) but I don’t want to waste money on bad stuff.

Thanks in advance!

The BBC has issued its own books tying in with the three latest Doctors (9, 10 & 11).

They are not novelisations of the epsiodes but new originals. They are written by various authors, so you may prefer some to others, but they all have to meet the BBC standards of quality and conform to the ‘rules’ of the series to get published.

My kid’s been working her way through the local library’s selection.

Can’t help with steering you through the fanfic to the good stuff. Someone else will surely be along shortly. We have great fans here.
