Recommend some good Doctor Who books

Despite being an admitted geek and a bit of an Anglophile, I’ve only just recently gotten into Doctor Who. I saw bits and pieces of the Tom Baker series on PBS here in the States way back when, but never cared for it.

Just about a month or so ago, though, I caught an episode of the current series on BBC America and loved it. I’ve since been catching up with the 9th and 10th Doctors through a combination of BBC America, the Sci Fi Channel and Netflix. I’m loving them, but now I’m wondering if there are any good Doctor Who books out there to help feed the addiction. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

If it helps, my favorite episodes that I’ve seen so far include all of the Moffat ones, plus “The Unquiet Dead,” “Love and Monsters,” “Human Nature/Family of Blood,” and “Midnight.”

When I was into book retail, I remember that “Day of the Daleks” was a perennial bestseller, though I’m a very reluctant Whovian.

You’ve made my suggestion very easy: Human Nature by Paul Cornell (who also adapted it for TV as the Human Nature/Family of Blood episodes).

The BBC have an ebook version here, as well as some other Who ebooks here.

Thanks, I’ll give that one a look. I’m a little behind on the history of the Daleks and why they’re supposed to be so terrifying, but they’re certainly interesting from what I’ve seen so far.

Cool, thanks. It’s on the list. I’m curious to see if it matches the creepy atmosphere of the episodes. Loved the scarecrows, particularly.
