We buy games, play them out, and give them to our less-financially-fortunate in-laws. The following is a list of games we have kept because of extreme playability…
Klonoa : Door to Phantomile - very charming, fun adventure game, appropriate for all age groups.
Tekken 3 - great beat-em-up game, fun, easy-ish single player challenge, many easter-eggs.
Devil Dice - utterly all-consuming puzzle game. You will become addicted.
Crash Team Racing - the best cartoon-race game. Solid control, VERY fun.
Crash 2 and Crash Warped - excellent platform adventures. Crash One is too hard with not enough fun to offset the difficulty.
Rayman - The first game we bought, about 4 years ago. Fun, cute, but HARD in the higher levels platform adventure.
TeleTron, thanks for the GameStop link. As a matter of fact there’s a FuncoLand store quite nearby my house, which seems to have a lot of the titles listed here. Which rules as far as the Tzeroling and I are concerned, but probably not Mrs. O.
Soul Blade is another one–it’s the canonical fantasy 3d fighting game. Lots of things to do. Unlike many other 3d fighters, there’s actually plenty of story line. It’s the prequel to Soul Calibur, which you might or might not be familiar with (although you should ).
I think I’ve looked at ebgames.com and their selection was crap and all the PS1/DC games were way too expensive. I’ll have another look; maybe having a list in hand will help.
Best game ever. Not something you can just stop by and pick up somewhere though. Takes some looking, and tends to run pretty high for a several years old PS1 game. But oh, it’s worth it.
Dance Dance Revolution is, without question, the best game ever. You need a special dance pad to play it on, but once it’s there, you’ll not want to play anything else. The higher levels (heck, the intermediate levels) get very challenging, so there’s always more to work towards. And it’s great exercise!
that said, Bust-A-Move 4 is extremely addictive, and some good platformers include Ape Escape and Tarzan. I’d also go for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2.
I got mine for $36, I think. I found it totally at random, and spent all but about 3 cents I had on my person to get it. I was terrified I’d end up not having enouch.
I tried to find a copy as a gift for someone a couple of months ago though, and all I could find were going for almost $50 if you settled for no case, no booklets. I think the only one I found with all the bits was 60some.
I got all the bits with mine. It’s a shame it’s so hard to find–you’d think Square would rerelease it. There’s definitely a market, especially considering Xenosaga just came out.
