The Goodbye Girl

Moonstruck.

Truly Madly Deeply. A lovely film starring Alan Rickman.

The Road Home

Oh this is so funny. SO MANY of the movies y’all have listed so far I’ve already seen, or are even particular favorites. I won’t bore you by listing them … but, obviously we’re on the right track here. There are some I haven’t seen and some I haven’t even heard of, so this is definitely helpful. Keep 'em coming …

I’m not sure if it fits, but I’ll throw it out there anyway…
Heaven Can Wait

Second Before Sunrise/Before Sunset. I don’t even like romantic movies, and these 2 together are in my top 10.

That has a really important message, actually. Loved that film. Cried like a fool…the ultimate dream come true. That punches you in the face.

True Romance

Doc Hollywood. It is tagged on the imdb as comedy but I reckon it’s more lighthearted than comedy. You can pretty much write the story from moment one but it carries it off with gentleness and non-cloying sweetness. One of my feel-good films.
Some great support actors as well including David Ogden Stiers.

  • 500 days of summer
  • Groundhog Day
  • Good Will Hunting

Great film.

And, similarly, The Piano. I’m not a film geek, but I really appreciate the craftsmanship of that film. Marvelous.

Am I a sap for liking Falling in Love, with De Niro and Streep? I really liked it.

I second this and Annie Hall, and would add Broadcast News and Heaven Help Us.

I’ll recommend A Life Less Ordinary. Sorta dark, sorta quirky, sorta silly, but definitely a good romantic story.

It Could Happen To You - Bridget Fonda is charming and Nic Cage is quite likeable in this feel-good romance.

Penelope - A modern/urban fairy tale, somewhat like Beauty & The Beast with the gender roles reversed. Starring Christina Ricci and James McAvoy.

I see the name Hepburn and the word Holiday and I can’t believe that the film mentioned is not Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. One of my favourite movies. Funny and romantic, and you get to see Rome.

I almost listed it, but I thought the end was so sad.

Grosse Point Blank. Best Romantic Assassin Comedy Movie starring John Cusack ever made.

Followed closely by War, Inc., in which John Cusack plays a burned out assassin who falls in love. But it’s totally different because he falls in love with Marisa Tomei instead of Minnie Driver. And Dan Ackroyd plays his boss in this one instead of his competitor like in the other.
