I would love to find something that does for CDs what DVD Profiler does for DVDs. WinXP or Linux (Ubuntu). Tried searching for past threads, but had no luck.
Not familiar with DVD Profiler, but all my music (on tape, cassettes, CDs, vinyl) is cataloged in a database program. Can break it down in all sorts of ways. I’m sure you have a database program already on your computer in a suite.
You can also list stuff in your wordprocessor and then sort it in different ways.
I don’t know of anything as nice as DVD Profiler that’s also free. There’s Collectorz and OrangeCD, but either one will cost you about $40. There’s something else for Mac, that again costs a fair bit of money, but was designed to work nicely with the built-in cameras as a UPC scanner.
Readerware at www.readerware.com. Not free, but cheap, and a good company to deal with.
The software is most often used for book collections, but it has versions for audio and video collections.
It retrieves info online, so you can catalog your collection just from the outside of the cases – just scan the barcode or enter the number. This is a lot faster than having to insert each CD or DVD into the player and wait for the computer to read from it.
Unlike a lot of commercial programs, Readerware allows you to export the data in standard, non-proprietary formats. So if you decide you don’t like it, you can transfer all the data to another program. Many of them try to lock you in, by not allowing you to get your data out again.
Thanks, all. I guess I’m stuck with what I have on hand.
