Recommend some books on drinking

I don’t drink…wine.

Or beer. Or mixed drinks.

When I turned 21, I got drunk to see what it was like. Because I was dumb, I skipped the supposedly fun part and went straight to the “ugh, what was I thinking?” part.

But for one reason or another, I decided that one of my characters is a raging alcoholic, and a number of others drink in social settings (parties, bars, wine tastings, etc.)

Obviously, more research is needed. So please recommend any good books (both fiction and nonfiction) on alcohol.

There are two very highly regarded mystery series where alcohol plays a key role in the characters’ lives: the Matthew Scudder series by Lawrence Block and the Dave Robicheaux series by James Lee Burke.

I get the sense you are looking more for “Wine for Dummies,” but I think you’d be well rewarded in terms of characterization by reading a few from both of these series. If you enjoy mysteries/thrillers you will almost certainly enjoy them, too.
