Recommend some peaceful music.

Hi! My life is a little less melodramatic than it was last time I requested music, so I’m looking for something to (ahem) chillax to. Any recommendations for peaceful music?

Examples: Enya, “Concerning Hobbits” from FotR, and “Wild Theme,” by Zamfir.

Ooooh, Deep Forest. A lot of Air stuff is pretty chill, as is Stereolab. I’m also fond of Wagon Christ for my more ambient moments. Though “moments” are all I manage to take for relaxing these days.

Tangerine Dream did a lot of that techno-melodic stuff. Very trancey.

I love Koop’s Waltz for Koop, it’s got a smidge of jazz and some vocals.

A very old album called “Bless the Weather” by John Martyn will mellow you right out.

Two piano works by Claude Debussy

Clair de Lune and La Cathédrale Engloutie

Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Fur Elise and Pathetique.

Anything by Nick Drake.

You know, I completely misunderstood your post, and was listening to the band Clair de Lune, trying to figure out how they qualified as “mellow”. Then the brain kicked on. :smack:

On topic; Mazzy Star is a good psychedelic mellow, David Gray can also be good for a more “adult contemporary” style.

Hi Speaker,
If you’re into Goa/Psy-trance, I would suggest Shpongle. Some of their songs are pretty relaxing, in a trippy sort of a way.

The Live365 Internet radio stations “The Lonely Lounge” and “Evening Melancholy” are mellow 24/7.

You could go to this page and either use the player to listen to on the Flash player, or you can download…

“Winter”
“The Chariot”
“Temporary and Eternal” (either version would be perfect)
“Glory”
“Given In”
“Til The Dawn Breaks”

or most of the others, though “Roy” and “100 Years” are not what you’re looking for.

Not on the player, but downloadable:

“Ra Is A Busy God”
“Summer” (either version)
“I Say”
“Mother Sea”
pretty much anything from The Keep and/or RhodeSongs
“Ode”
“Would That I Could”
“If So”
“Rhodes Waltz”
“Ally Ally Oxenfree”
“Given In”
“The First To Cry”

Or if you’d prefer instrumentals, go to this page and download the 6 trance instrumentals.

Sinéad O’Connor’s cover of Elton’s “Sacrifice”. Beautiful rendition but be advised she tends to get a little loud.

Brian Eno’s “Music for Airports” is a classic of the ambient genre. In a similar vein, anything by Harold Budd or Daniel Lanois.

Look into the Buddha-Bar series. Awesome stuff I first heard in a little shop in Cairo and the guy literally could not believe I had never heard of it. It was like “Thriller” was playing and I asked “Who is this on your stereo?”

I’m quite favorable to “Mein Herz Brennt” by Rammstein for drifting off to sleep.

Seriously though, check out a band called Eastmountainsouth or Hem, they have a lot of mellow with soothing vocals.

Whenever I’m stuck in traffic, I put on Poi Dog Pondering’s song “Angelika Suspended”. That song kneads the knots out of my shoulders and is the audio equivalent of Calgon.

Anything by Kitaro or maybe some Jean-Luc Ponty?

When I used to do tech support, by the end of the day I couldn’t bear the sound of a human voice. My favorite remedies were:

Divinities: 12 Dances with God, by Ian Anderson
The Nine Maidens and The Lady and the Unicorn, by John Renbourn
The Fairy Round Dance Music For Flute And Harp, by Eppel, Topp
Live in Tasmania, by John Fahey
The Armadillo Album, by Leo Kottke

“The Mummer’s Dance” by Loreena McKennitt.

Actually, a lot of McKennitt’s work should suit you, that’s just the one that sprang to mind immediately.

I came in here specifically to mention Jean-Luc Ponty’s “Imaginary Voyage”.

Another Eno Suggestion: try the album Another Green World, and in particular the song named (I think) “Julie with”.
