Soothing, sick person music (need answer...somewhat fast?)

So, I’m ill. Fever, chills, all that fun stuff. I went to go listen to music, and as it turns out, listening to techno and other fast-paced music is reeeeeeeeally not what I want right now.

I’m hoping some of you could recommend some soothing, calm music, that won’t make my head pound. My requirements: lower-pitched, if possible, slower paced, and pretty. (To give you an example, I’ve been listening to this music from the Hobbit’s new trailer, because it’s just about perfect, but obviously I want more than just that.) I like orchestral, but if you find something really pretty that isn’t, go ahead and post it.

Thanks, everyone.

Bach,

Goldberg variations (aria)
Cello Suite #1 (prelude)

Debussy Clair de Lune The Sunken Cathedral

Vocals yes no maybe? If yes, Pretty. (it doesn’t start out lower-pitched but goes there very quickly). If you like that, most of this might work for you too.

Oh, yes, sorry, vocals are fine. Perhaps I should’ve made that clearer. If you’ve got something by a good bass singer, all the better.

Thanks, folks.

Michael Franks…romantic, clever softer pop/jazz.

Ok, here you go. Another. There’s more

Selected Ambient Works Volume II by Aphex Twin. It’s not really what I’d call “ambient” music, but it’s a lot more pleasant than techno. Aphex Twin has done a lot of diverse stuff, but this album is the one that really appeals to me. (Volume 1 is also not really ambient, and it’s far more uptempo electro-techno than V2.)

The pinnacle of Ambient Music is Eno’s Ambient 1: Music for Airports, which is a wonderfully divisive album. Some folks - me for instance - get it, and find it to be utterly beautiful. Other folks don’t get it at all, and claim that those of us who do get it are actually lying about getting it because we’re trying to look all cool and intellectual or something, and that there’s really nothing there and it’s all a trick.

If you just want something that’s universally acclaimed to be achingly beautiful in a minimalist sort of way, then obtain Alina by Arvo Pärt.

Elvis Perkins - While You Were Sleeping

Norah Jones - Don’t Know Why

Lyle Lovett - Nobody Knows Me

Sheldon likes Soft Kitty:slight_smile:

Mazzy Star - Fade Into You

Rita Coolidge - We’re All Alone

Radu Lupu - Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata

Take a dose of Mose Allison & chill out…

Preferably sung by your MeeMaw (not that I’d kick Penny off the bed, mind you).
