Recommendations for a good accounting textbook?

I want to find out if accounting might be a good fit for me. I’m in software right now, but maybe I could slowly transition into accounting, or maybe move into financial software.

Since it’s a crazy whim, my brother suggested I get a good intro textbook and read it and try out the problems, before I shell out money for a class.

So - does anyone have recommendations for a good book, that teaches well even if there’s no class to back it up?

Any recent accountants in here?

Thanks.

If no one here has a suggestion you could simply browse the bestsellers in Accounting at Amazon:

These textbooks are pricy, so I would get an older edition of a title which appeals to you.
