this is embarrassing but I have been recording my singing voice over my iphone just for fun.
To improve the quality, I bought a special microphone in attempt to improve the quality.
The microphone even comes with some webbing to be placed in front like in recording studios.
However, after I recorded the songs, I realised that the songs recorded with this microphone sounded muffled vs a more crisp and clear tone when using the iphone microphone.
Is this a user problem? or did i just buy a dud? how should i set this microphone so it can filter out to a more crisp voice - or does the iphone microphone do that??
Without hearing anything or seeing your setup or knowing what your new microphone is, my guess is that it is a gain issue. The iPhone is boosting the signal whereas the high-quality microphone isn’t and you’ll need to boost its gain.
Or it’s a phantom power issue.
What are you listening to? The speaker on the phone, headphones, or a decent hi-fi system? That will color the sound and may mislead you. It would be good to look at the sound with a sound editor like Audacity to see the spectrum and what frequencies are being boosted or suppressed, as well as the levels. Also the purest way to record would be with any auto-level turned off.
