I took these two photos on Bastille Day, at Place de la Concorde in Paris. Someone had put red cloth beards on the statues. Was this just a prank, or is it a tradition? Did it have anything to do with the fact that this was the location of the main guillotine during the Revolution?

Hi I live in Paris, altho’ I’ve seen various things on various statues over the years I’ve never heard anything about this … or seen red beards in other places. I’d say a prank.
So there we are, no help at all !
Same as Jones : I live in Paris, and have never seen or heard about it, so it’s no tradition. It’s either a prank, street art, or viral marketing
Might it be a joke about Daniel Cohn-Bendit (“Danny the Red”)?
No more “answers” for you Panache45 but I came through Place République* last night and noticed that of the large statue in he middle one lady had a read beard another a blue beard of the same style as in your picture.
*Often the start point for various demonstrations.
