Red copper skillet, Opinions

I find they are very sensitive to overheating and ruining the surface in a short amount of time. One of mine I left the burner on accidentally for few minutes and it charred the contents and smoked. It was never the same. The other one has never been overheated but is gradually loosing its non stick quality. Not even that gradual, from what I have seen I suspect they start to deteriorate at slightly over 400 degrees.

We had the green version of that and it was crap. When they came out with the copper ones I looked at reviews and most of them said “These are the same thing as those crappy green ones.”

Hmm, I’ll have to be extra careful not to overheat mine.

I’ve had mine a couple months, probably used mine at least 20 times. I’ve loved it. LOVED it unlike any other cooking pan or pot I’ve ever owned. It’s the first skillet that I’ve ever used that acts like the teflon ones claim to in the commercial. Very, very non-stick! I’ve been toying with the idea of buying one in the 12" size.

I’ve heard of some having issues with them, but it’s important to read the directions in/on the packaging. They MUST be seasoned, oddly enough, similarly to (but not exactly like) a cast-iron pan. I don’t really think of ceramic and cast-iron to be similar, so I wouldn’t have thought that necessary.

I’ve never used a ceramic pan before. Do they all exhibit the fantastic non-stick properties of the Red Copper Skillet? Are there other brands that aren’t TOO much more expensive that are markedly higher in quality? If so, perhaps I’ll get that instead of the 12" Red Copper pan.

HONEYBADGERDC, it might be a lost cause, but have you considered re-seasoning the pan? The directions said it needs to be done periodically, so after that incident, a re-seasoning (if it’s not all charred and melt-y) might help matters.

Bump.

Seriously, I’d never seen or heard of ceramic cookware before. Anyone else have any experience with it, and if so, is it closer to mine or HoneyBadgerDC’s? Is better quality ceramic cookware worth it over the Red Copper skillet?

I have a ceramic pan I found on Amazon, and I really like it. It’s not as non-stick as the one mentioned, but it’s been consistent for a few years now. I probably use slightly higher heat than recommended, but it makes a beautifully brown crisp crust on a steak. Very even heating, nicely heavy pan, it’s definitely not one of those chintzy light aluminum things with a teflon coating that can melt.

Thanks for your thoughts on the ceramic cookware, but what IS that image? A TV/monitor support arm? A home gym of some sort?

I don’t suppose you have a link to the one you bought on Amazon? It’s probably expired by now if it was a few years ago.

Whoops, no that’s a copy-paste misfire from a work email earlier. Top of a medical exam light that needs tightening. Taken from standing on the countertop. I thought I had copied the Amazon link! Here it is: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BK89AYS/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks for the link. Some reviewers are claiming it’s teflon with another name. I’ll have to read up on it and see if they’re full of BS or not.
