Red Hat Linux 8.0

I just started using it, and I like it so far. I haven’t got deep into it enough to really see how well it works, but I like the “blue curve” interface.

Next step: Configure SAMBA on it, possibly with SWAT.

By the way, I got the disc images via a P2P sharing network; it worked MUCH better than my attempts to connect to any of the mirror FTP sites. Moderators, may I mention which network, since Red Hat allows free distribution and this is a legal, legitimate use?

I usually keep my Linux box upgraded to the latest RawHide packages. Right now I’m using RedHat 8.0 because the programmers seem to have taken a break after months of hard-core development. 8.0 is good, but I’m constantly wanting new features, so I can’t wait until the folks at RedHat start on the new RawHide packages.

My SO is running an install-fest tomorrow at his school - so far they have about 35 people signed up and paying (10$ each - its a fundraiser for a club). They are using RH 8.0 also, since its quite user-friendly. I was helping them out a bit yesterday as they were burning CDs and doing a couple of test computers, and it does look pretty cool. I have Debian on my computer, and I will stick to it, but the Red Hat version is one I probably would have tried on my own if my SO wasn’t there to handle Debian for me.

Friggin’ SAMBA… I had trouble with 7.3 and now I’m not much farther on 8.0. This is getting too much like work…
