Reefer madness

How long does marijuana stay in your system before it goes away? Can one do anything to facilitate its departure prior to a drug test?

I suppose you could “wash” it out with mega-doses of water, but beware.

I saw an episode of “ER” where a patient had done this very thing in order to pass a drug test. Poor guy had drunk gallons of the stuff, and he had basically OD’d on it.

Please tell me you’re not an airline pilot, ENC . . .

How long it stays in your system depends on your metabolism, IIRC. If it was a “I never get high but took 3 puffs of a joint”, then it could be gone in 3-5 days. If you are a heavy smoker, it might take up to 6 weeks to clear up.

Some tips for beating a urine test:

  1. Water, Water, Water. I wouldn’t suggest OD’ing on water as rastahomie notes (is that even possible?), but always keep a full cup near you and drink as much as you can stand.

  2. Don’t give them your first piss of the day.

  3. I’ve heard (not sure if it is true) that aspirin will do two things, one the acid content will break down some of the THC in your system; Also, it makes your urine cloudy.

  4. At any health store (GNC or whatever else), get goldenseal root extract. Taking this supposedly cleanses your system out.

  5. Vitamin B supplement will make your urine more yellow, I’ve heard that clear urine (a result of all the water you will be drinking) is suspect in testing labs.
When I was in college, I was a fairly heavy smoker and using these steps I passed a urine test (I stopped smoking 6 days before the test).

I hesitate to mention this, as it sounds like prescribing a relatively dangerous drug to cleanse the system of a relatively safe drug, but here goes:

THC is not soluble in water. It is soluble in alcohol and fats. It is stored in fatty tissue. I don’t think eating greasy foods would do the trick, as you readily store fat. But, theoretically, you could drink a lot of booze for a couple of days after smoking and it would flush out the THC.

I feel dirty for making this suggestion.

So, TennHippie, if I ever need to take a drug test again, I’ll just smoke as much as I want. Then on the way to the clinic, I’ll get a Big Mac and a bottle of Night Train.

THC is indeed stored in fat cells. Do not exercise before the test. This will burn fat and release the THC.
GoldenSeal, and every other tea that’s promoted as a “flusher”, is a waste of money. You get the same result (dilution) from plain water.
If possible, fill the specimen bottle from the middle of the urine stream (don’t pee immediately into the bottle)
About a month ago there was a guy being interviewed on our local morning radio show and he would send you a sample of his urine, through the mail, for a fee to use in the test. His “sample” came complete with a concealment kit. Weird.

Sure it’s possible. It’s called “drowning”. It does make it difficult to operate motor vehicles afterwards.

Agreed, MrKnowItAll. Then again, you must admit that if you were given a pair of cement shoes and thrown in the river, the results of your urine test become exponentially less import. Maybe it’s not such a bad idea.

I’m fairly certain that you can “OD” on water, though it’s difficult and not really dangerous. Perhaps raises blood pressure a bit?

Incidentally, it is the only medical condition whose symptoms do NOT include “dry mouth.”

Overdosing on water can induce intoxication. It can also induce tremors, seizures and death. Stick to MD 20-20.

Didn’t Cecil talk about the H2O OD thing once?

I thought this thread would be about the 1930’s film “REEFER MADNESS”. I saw it once, during my college days-remember it as having been hilariously funny.
Is it still around?

This stuff has worked for me, and is sold in most whole foods and herbal supplement stores.

It is possible to OD on water. An average male would have to drink between 6 to 8 GALLONS of water an hour to do it.

Thus while possible it is one of those things you would have to really really try to do.

The place where I work recently hired a few hundred new folks. Many were drug-tested. Many flunked. Some of them, expecting a urine test, (and having taken a flushing teatment from GNC,) were surprised that a hair test was used. One chap, having been tipped off to the hair test, came in with a shaved head. They plucked a few chest hairs! He flunked.
–Nott, the large

From what I have heard, hair tests are more expensive to do, but there is almost no way to beat them. Anybody know more about this?

Silly nit. He should have dyed his hair instead.

That, or bleached it.
In an interview with a company that does tests based on hair samples, their spokesman admitted this severely reduced it’s effectiveness.
And it’s less likely they’d notice that then a shaved head, especially if you permed/dyed/basically beat up your hair the day before going in.

How long does it take for the THC to get out of your hair then? I would guess that “Years” and “Depends on the length of your hair” are the answers…

You can get that drink to “clean out” (or mask, I’d say would be more likely) THC in your urine. Back when I was younger, we used this several times with good results. It was about $30. As I have cautioned in another thread, I would not recommend the cheap powdered stuff you mix with water. My sister once got fired after failing a drug test using that kind, and she said it was so disgusting it made her barf. (The drink - not getting fired  )

About the hair tests : a not-very-noble but longtime and true friend of mine anf my husband’s is on probation and must give hair samples to his probation officer for testing. He told me this week about some kind of shampoo he bought at the head shop and it seemd to have worked for him. I don’t know the name, price, or anything else.

I flunked a urine test once and I hadn’t smoked in 3 months. Now I just take in a sample that I know is clean, i.e. not mine. But you have to be sure and keep the temperature right!
