Reference person's phone number incorrect on resume. Advice?

My friend recently found out that the phone number of one of her references was incorrect on her resume (it was actually the friend’s number). Is this a big problem? Should she contact the companies that she applied to and tell them about the mistake? What should she do (besides correct it on her resume for future applications).

Nobody checks references until after the interview and they’re considering making a job offer. She can mention the correction at the interview. For future applications, reference contact info doesn’t belong on a resume; that should be a separate page, to be provided “on request”.

Thank you for the reply. My original post was incorrect; the reference information was on a second page.

Agree, only mention if she gets an interview. Even then, keep it low key - “Oh, I do need to mention a change to the phone number of one of my listed references. Would you like to make a note of it now, or should I email an updated resume to your attention?”

I agree on the first bit, but including references in a resume is a regional thing and does not apply across the board.
