Jodih: I actually see DavidB’s mentioning that bit about insults not allowed in Great Debats very much like two chessplayers during a chess game. If say I’m playing DavidB and I move my knight two squares diagonally (instead of the proper L-shaped move) and it thus ends up on a square that is quite advantageous to me and a direct threat on his king, DavidB is well within his rights to tell me, the other player, that particular move is not allowed per the rules. He does not need to call another person to referee that issue.
Pash: I’m a believing person of faith, and I believe I’ve posted in a condescending manner in response to your postings. All of which, by the way, I find to be either condescending or insulting to others who don’t accept what you’ve dictated to be The Truth as Pash Sees It (Trademark). Get off it.
General Public: DavidB has, in every single CvsE thread in which he’s participated, posted facts, cites, references and inferences with a “road map,” if you will, of how he’s gotten to those inferences. The “other side” has merely posted insults or hijacked the threads into another issue.

I wouldn’t be talking about being a coward. Personally I’m very pleased with David’s job as both a moderator and a poster. Yest his responses can be harsh, but they are always well imformed, and he has the facts to back up his attitude. If only the same could be said for you.
It has always been pretty clear that when a moderator posts without noting that their “moderator hat” is on, they are just another poster. They are allowed to bait, insult (in the pit only, of course), debate, toss facts, refuse to believe conjecture, call the kettle black, etc. JUST LIKE ANY OTHER POSTER.

- Pashley did not read the post in which DavidB. warned against pit language in non-pit debates.
OR - Pashley applies a double-standard in which people who insult him should get slapped, but he should be able to insult others
My conclusion: DavidB did nothing against the rules. Pashley broke the rules. DavidB was absolutely no more of a jerk than Pashley (consistently) seems to be.

Way back when when Pashley was around more frequently, he posted as he is doing currently. He and I got into some seriously heavy and heated discussions/debates/arguments all over this board (and DavidB was right to call us on it). I was also not the only one jumping all over Pashley’s case, and one person went so far as to say (in the Pit) he wished he would die and rot in Hell; this, of course, crossed a line, and I came to Pashley’s defense. Surprisingly, we then buried the hatchet, and although we still disagreed, we kept it civil and not-personal. Then Pashley disappeared for a couple of months, and then he suddenly reappears like yesterday.
And now he’s back to his old self.
So, Pash, what’s it gonna be this time around - truce or feud? Evidently you think I’m trying to egg you on, but, as I’ve stated before, we will always disagree - it’s up to you if we’re going to be disagreeable about it.

I must empathize with DavidB. I’ve been involved in several religious threads in which Pashley makes assertions and fails to respond to rebuttals to his arguments. I have found it difficult if not impossible to elicit a rational response to a rational response. I found dealing with Pashley exasperating initially, and then resigned myself to the fact that a debate was impossible. Like DavidB, I’m arrogant (I think that’s why I like him) albeit calmed by a less aggressive style. The reminder about profanity was issued as a moderator. I have personally reminded Pashley about the use of obsenities in other threads, and to the best of my knowledge, nobody started a thread in the pit attacking me for both debating and pseudo-moderationg. I am aware of the retraction.
I’ve never gone head-to-head with DavidB, mostly because I’m a chicken shit.
I think he is a very skilled debater, so it would be an accomplishment for me if I were ever to go head on with him.
I can think of many here worse than DavidB, and I can think of some who are better. All in all, I think he is a good moderator. Although I used to think differently, I think he is changing, becoming a little more tolerant.
Or perhaps it is me who is changing…
By the way, I think DavidB really lost his cool when Phaedrus was around. That was so much fun…
