Shaun Alexander’s first 65 carries this season (that is, all the carries he’s had thus far): 187 yards (2.88 ypc)
Other Seahawks this year: 166 carries, 642 yards (3.87)
Reggie Bush’s first 64 carries this season: 189 yards (2.95)
Other Saints this year: 134 carries, 565 yards (4.2)
And Deuce McAllister’s a hell of a lot better than Maurice Morris.
“New Orleans Saints (6-3)
A double-reverse TD to Reggie Bush. Yeah, they’re right, it was a double, swoosh this way, swoosh the other way. So what’s with the double-reverse phenomenon this year? They used to be only things mis-called by announcers who didn’t understand the difference between a reverse and a double. A mean defensive guy camps out in his spot and the caravan comes first one way, then the other. OK, wait a minute, and he puts out his hand and makes the stop. Is there a coach out there who will please tell me the advantage of the extra reverse? How about just running a weave, like the old Butch van Breda Kolff Princeton basketball offense.”
Unless I’m totally misrembering the play, he seems to have no idea wtf he’s talking about - and he went out of his way to try to justify it, even making reference to it generally being miscalled. Oh, irony.
“Yeah, they’re right, it was a double, swoosh this way, swoosh the other way.” - So the initial movement in one direction is apparently the initial reverse. Is a sweep running play a reverse, because it swooshes one way? And then if you turn it around, it’s a double?
Bush has been a different RB these past few weeks and has been doing a great job running north to south and knowing exactly when to cut to the outside.
Marshall Faulk made a good point during the NBC preshow when he said that Reggie really needs to learn to protect the football. Maybe watching Deuce will learn 'em how to run inside, too. We’ll see.
Other than that, yeah, it was nice to see. He seems like a pretty good guy, I always cheer for players like that.
It’s strange with Bush … it looks like he never really had to learn the fundamentals of the running back position until he got to the NFL. He’s been getting by on raw ability, apparently. Like the guy who never had to study until he got to law school, or something like that.
It was painful during one of his runs against SF. He fumbled the damn ball running down the field with no one near him. It went ot of bounds but I said’WTF?!?!" about 10 times. He was running full out headed for a touchdown and loses control of the ball.
I saw that and was a touch confused. I’m not sure how that even happens? On top of that he almost lost the ball twice as he dove head first into the endzone.
bordelond, that’s the way I see it. That’s why it ain’t such a bad thing he’s running behind another fairly well established back.
Bush has turned the corner. Notice how much tougher he has been to bring down lately … the sight of him dragging a defender for an extra yard or two is becomming commonplace.
He’s becoming a real force now. Teams are going to have to put more and more effort into specifically addressing how to stop him in their game plan. Last night he was too impressive for this Dallas fan.
Anyone that pays one thin dime for football advice from Charlie Casserly is a G*% $a*n idiot.
405 yards rushing, 687 yards receiving for a total of 1092. Not a bad rookie season if you ask me. He even has an outside shot at 1000 yards receiving if he ends the season with three big games.
