Reggie Bush is a bust.

That was the most impressive part of the game. The Saits used everyone against Dallas. I was half expecting the waterboy to get in on the fun.

Karney looked like he had just won the lottery.

Classy move with not scoring at the end of the game. Parcels mouthed “good job” as he walked up to Payton. The only thing that bothered me was the announcer saying “Wow! Maybe the Saints are for real!”. No shit, what led you to that conclusion?

Nitpick, but John Carney is the kicker, Mike Karney is the manbeast fullback.

… the OP seems somehow dated right now. Bush can clearly play, and I think we can safely ignore the first half of this season in evaluating his future prospects.

Lessee…against the Giants, Reggie had 126 yards rushing on 20 attempts for a 6.3 average and a TD. Add another 23 yards receiving on 2 catches.

As a Wise Druid has repeatedly observed, Reggie Bush is not a bust.

The OP clearly wanted to see MVP numbers and highlight reel plays from day one.
A) Bush failed to deliver this desire.
B) Such a failure does not constitute a bust. These are busts.

A year later, does anybody dispute the point?

And he’s still getting hype.

Yup. Is he the greatest thing since sliced bread? No. Is he a bust? Not by any definition.

Look no further than Cedric Benson to see the true definition of a bust. He was drafted 4th overall as a RB and has essentially killed this Bears team in the locker room and on the field.

I don’t think the Saints have completely figured out how to use him, and the loss of Deuce has forced the Saints to ask him to do things that aren’t in his wheelhouse. I don’t think any rational observer expected or claimed that Bush would be an every down workhorse who’d move the pile and drive it up the middle on short yardage. Part of the problem so far has been the system in which he’s in. If the Saints had the personnel to run an offense more similar to San Diego, a stud lead blocking fullback and a every down TE to block and catch passes, you’d see Bush having more productive runs off tackle and in counters and trap between the tackles. The Saints are essentially running a spread offense which usually requires him to be lined up 9 yards deep by himself.

Reggie ain’t a bust, that’s for sure. However, that Mario Williams pick is starting to look like a pretty smart move. Both Bush and Vince Young have been solid, but Williams is part of a soon to be dominant D-Line.

PS - The zombie thread isn’t going to be looked upon fondly by the mods, methinks. Probably would have been wiser to start a new one with a link to the old on inside it. As it is, the OP looks pretty damn confusing when opened now.

Why zombify a thread when you could just start a new one and link back to this one? It’d mean we could go on with this discussion rather than having SkipMagic come in here in a second and axe the thing.

But Reggie’s on pace this season for 870 rushing yards and 550 receiving yards along with 10 TDs. That’s not great, and not living up to his hype as Marshall Faulk Mk.II , but it’s hardly a bust.

Of the rookie RBs from last year, Bush is still doing better than any of them other than Joseph Addai. For the fact that he’s associated with the atrocious Saints offense this year, instead of the Colts offense, that makes a lot of sense.

Overhyped? Definitely. A bust? Compare him to Ki-Jana Carter, Courtney Brown or Charles Rogers.
ETA: Or, more of what Omni said.
