regluing binding on a Martin D-28

Some of the binding is coming loose on my guitar, It’s a mid eighties, not a pre-war guitar but still nice. I know that to take it to a luthier would be an expensive job that i can’t afford right now.

I was thinking about just plain elmers glue and some tape but not strong tape to damage the finish. My thought is that elmers glue won’t damage the instrument.

Is this a boneheaded idea and/or do you have any suggestions?
