Religious people who are being dicks in the Christopher Hitchens thread

That’s worse than Mother Theresa’s legacy.

God sent Christopher Hitches to Hell because he loved him

Gee, if it’s as simple as God giving us what we want in the end, I’ve got my afterlife all planned out. Now, where did I put those plans for Hef’s Bel Air mansion again…?

Does that guy think hell is eternal torture or just the absence of god? If the latter, then meh.

Why don’t you find out what kind of Christian I am then? Hint: it’s the former.

I’m over this now, if anybody cares.

Hitchens’ death and subsequent thread had the misfortune to occur on the same day that I had some family religious shit roll downhill towards me, so that was probably a factor in my Pittage. Because, as always, everything is all about me.

Anyway, carry on, if you like.

Bless your heart.

Shodan

You mean the former or the latter. The former is what I was saying was douchelike. The latter not douchey. If you’re the type of Christian that fits my second description, that doesn’t jive with you hoping that Hitchens finds your god’s mercy.

edited to say: Wait I had 3 types of christians in my post. Surprise, fear, ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatical devotion to the pope. Four types of Christian. I’ll come in again!

Heaven for climate, Hell for company.Mark Twain

You’re right, sorry, I skipped over your first option. I’m the.. middle one? What I mean is I’m not so big on the Hell thing. I know that puts me in the minority but not out of the mainstream of contemporary Christendom

I wonder why Christians don’t just trust the God they say they belive in,or why they have to tell God what to do. To me an all knowing being doesn’t need me to ask for anything, just trust that what is will be taken care of, like a good father that would not kill his child because his child never knew him/her, in my opinion this supreme being would not have a child then destroy it! Just being a human who doesn’t know all things I would still not give a chid anything I’Knew’ would be hamrful, nor would I hold anything back that was for my childs good. I would hope a supreme being would be more comapssionate or loving than me!

For semi-amusement purposes, it’s hard to beat Cal Thomas’ column on Hitchens’ death.

The best part is where he sneers at Hitchens for not having original ideas, then attempts to refute those ideas with the aid of copious Bible quotations.

*Why am I seeing Google ads for meeting “mature singles over 50” at the bottom of the page? Is the road to Hell paved with sexy matrons?

While I kinda liked that he was a super-militant atheist (we have the right to be extremists too!), I’m not at all sad Hitchens died terribly; because he was a misogynist, fanatical, war-mongering, annoying dick. Good riddance.

Few Christians I have known are as dickish as I observed him to be. Let them gloat.

You’re glad that someone died a painful and early death just because you thought their views were dickish?

Jeez, and here I was feeling bad for even starting this OP.

Misogynist? How so? I’ve seen this popping up in the last few days, and I’m frankly confused by it. Is a person who supports women’s rights in just about every case a misogynist? Who do think is not a misogynist?

Well, if anyone wouldn’t have given a rat’s ass about folks pissing on his grave it would have been Hitchens.

I’ve been away for several days or I would have responded earlier, but I do want to say—

When Isaac Asimov, a world famous and outspoken (though not so much as Hitchens) atheist and president of the American Humanist Association, died, his friend Kurt Vonnegut began his eulogy at a memorial service with “Isaac is in heaven now”. He said he got half gasps and half laughs from the crowd. I think Asimov would have thought it brilliant.

My comment that Hitchens is with Jesus now was an homage to this. (“With Jesus” might have gotten boos at Asimov’s service since he was Jewish, but works for Hitch.)
I wish I could link to a friend’s facebook profile, but, alas, it would invade her privacy. Instead I’ll describe it-

Short version: It’s a picture of her, a very attractive in a Fran Drescher way (curvy, Jewish, dark hair, light skin) kissing a somewhat lecherously grinning Hitchens.

Longer version: She went to his book signing in Birmingham a couple of years ago, stood in line for his autograph, and as he signed she gave a camera to a friend who was with her, knelt down and whispered in his ear “Just a word of warning- when you’re through signing I’m going to kiss you on the cheek for a photo”. When he finished signing and she went in to kiss him on the cheek he turned his face, picked her up, and planted one on her lips. Could have gone either way on the “sexual harassment” chart, but she loved it, and said that she was surprised at how strong he was and how good he smelled (she expected cigarettes and scotch and sweat but said it was actually a really good musky cologne smell).

Anyway, it’s currently her profile pic. (She was born Jewish, has never been religious since I’ve known her [I met her when she was in her late teens, now she’s mid 30s], became atheist, but keeps a few of the rituals and traditions alive for the sake of her son because you hate to throw something out that’s been with the family thousands of years.)

Re: my above post, if you’re friends with me on FB send me a message and I’ll give you her name so you can see the picture.

Yeah, yesterday I caught the Thomas column in my hometown paper, the Democrat and Chronicle, which includes it on occasion.

It’s amazing in that this third-rate middle school mind imagines atheists to be likely the world’s smallest minority. Perhaps he’s never heard of the transgendered.

And atheists are no doubt growing, not only in raw numbers but on a per capita basis. In the United States, the Western World, and even in the whole world. So it’s not <<getting smaller all the time>> as I recall from yesterday’s paper. (I’m having trouble with the link at a public library PC.)

Yes it does.

Exactly the same way it would make you a dick to try and get a Hindu to eat beef, a vegetarian to eat meet, someone with lactose intolerance to eat cheese etc etc.

What the fuck makes you think we want you “prayers” or need them.

One of the worst experiences I have had as a father so far was when me daughter came home after attending church with grandpa and informed me that she had been praying for me.

Who the fuck put the idea into her head that I needed saving? That I was somehow in need of god’s help for my soul. Fucking arsehole Christians giving a 6 year old the idea that her daddy was bad, needed help, was going to hell.

This is what you fucktards do too much of and this is what sucks about Christianity. You whatever the crap you like for yourself, but for the everloving sake of a syphilitic Jesus don’t put other people down you STD infested cumstains.
