But I gotta tell you that there are questions that are lingering that the families want answers to, and that is, why did this happen? Why did the government do this? How did this happen?
Abbott is incapable of discussing ANYTHING without drawing in typical conservative bugbears. He (incorrectly) said that the victims of the Cleveland shooting were illegal immigrants. When the state was entirely without power for a week during the winter storm, he blamed renewables (it was actually the natural gas network that went down).
When he blames “the government,” among Texas conservatives that is inherently understood to be the federal government. There’s no logic to it and it doesn’t matter. This framing lets conservatives direct their fear and anger toward something they’re comfortable fearing and hating, rather than having to take an uncomfortable look at how their own policies have helped create the surge in gun violence.
yeah, just about all states have their ‘crazy conservative’ zones but i recognize that tons of decent texans are not like that but can’t change much due to gerrymandering.
He’s probably rejoicing that the shooter was stopped by “a good guy with a gun”. I mean, I’m glad that police officer was there, and that person probably saved a lot of lives and suffering, but s/he most likely was called to the mall to deal with, for instance, a shoplifter or some loitering teenagers, and instead had to do this. A true “good guy/gal” DOES NOT want to do this.
BTW, most officers never pull, let alone shoot, their guns, and when they do, it’s usually to shoot an injured animal.
You know, you’re right. Heaven forbid anyone read the actual gospels, compare their teachings to what their preacher is proclaiming, and start asking awkward questions.

Plan B for one of his victims? Texas grand slam
According to the report, Slaton had sexual intercourse with a legislative aide whom he had primary responsibility for overseeing. He invited her to his apartment late March 31 and served her several alcoholic beverages, the committee found. The aide testified that she consumed “a lot of alcohol” and felt “really dizzy" at Slaton’s apartment. Sometime on the morning of April 1, the two had sexual intercourse, and the aide got Plan B to prevent pregnancy later that morning.
