I can’t believe people are upset about this.
“Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” was as hilarious a send-up of sci-fi movies as was ever made. It’s funny, kindhearted, well-paced, well-acted, has all kinds of terrific gags and avoids almost all the pitfalls of 80’s comedies - no gratuitous nudity or profanity, for instance. It never takes itself too seriously, but takes itself seriously enough to tell the story straight. It’s got one of the best titles ever. It had a funky, indie-style soundtrack long before “indie” soundtracks became trendy.
Of course, the movie business being what it is, there’s a good chance any given movie will be bad, irrespective of what it’s remade of. The quality of a remake is not at all connected to the quality of an original. Case in point: “Battlestar Galactica” was a terrible TV show that was remade into one of the best shows in the history of television drama. The quality of the original didn’t at all affect the remake. On the other hand, if they announced they were remaking “Casablanca,” how would you feel about that?
IF they stay true to the spirit of the original Bill & Ted - and that WOULD mean updating their slang, if nothing else - they could make an equally funny movie.

I notice nobody mentions the far less funny “Bill and Teds Bogus Journey” nowadays…
Bogus Journey was a weird-ass movie, but they did a damn good job with the climax. The ZZ Top homage was great, and call me a dork but the Reaper’s line “You might be a king or a lowly street sweeper/But sooner or later you dance with the Reaper” was well done.

Let’s keep it that way…

Oh, my no. I actually thought Bogus Journey was more clever than the first. The whole, “My old teacher…” “My prized pupil” payoff was hysterical. And the Reaper…the Reaper made the movie. “I’m so sorry…They melvined me.”

I’m with you. I liked the second one as much as the first, though Station annoyed me.
I forgot to mention…the mall they visited in the first movie, that’s here in Phoenix. It’s really a trip to see it on the big screen, recognizing it from before the mall changed appearance. An old friend of mine is in the background, and that was his claim to fame.
They better film the remake at the local mall, that’s all I’m saying.
I think that we, the people that posted here in defense of Bill and Ted should never post to another movie thread again.
As for me…well, I saw the post on the front page for the boards and saw “Remake of Bill &…” and my heart immediately skipped a beat.

For one thing, didn’t they take the ice skating rink out? I used to live a couple of miles from that mall.

Filmed on the site of the Star Trek episode Arena. Click on the photo for a Metron.

That was my favorite joke in the movie. First you see a despondent Bill and Ted watching Kirk fighting a Gorn on a rocky hill on a distant planet. Then you see Robot B&T drag our heroes up the very same hill in southern California

Does a remake of He-Man count? :dubious:
[/QUOTE]
Maybe they’ll really go for the full leather-bear treatment and have Skeletor taking He-Man from behind after the whipping instead of wimping out like they did in the Lundgren version. Seriously, you don’t have to be much of a freudian to see the subtext in that movie.
This is so bogus! Bill and Ted do not need a remake or reboot. A sequel could be gnarly. Like the article mentioned, have them be 40-somethings dealing with kids who are just as boneheaded as they were. Bill ending up with his step-mom would be a nice nod to people who saw the original, as well as a bit of a joke about age-appropriate sex partners. “I just have a slight Oedipal complex.”
