We discussed the deplorable situation where this poor lad was being threatened after a canon explosion seriously maimed him. A woman has been charged for harassment, and hopefuly more will follow.
I think making anonymous threats is the most chickenshit thing a person can do.
I’m very glad. I don’t want anyone harassing her…but I want her prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
I’m relieved to see this thread isn’t about rampaging religious officials maiming kids … had me wondering when I clicked the title.
Thanks for posting the update. Its good to hear that those around him are being nicer about the whole thing. I hope that he will be able to walk again someday.
Awesome!
41-year old “woman,” PWNED!
Threats are pathetic, but I thought it might be some kids in the school or overzealous 15th graders. But a 41 year old? You fucking loser!
Good to see the kid is getting support from the community.
Would the kid or his family even have any effect, one way or another, over the cannon’s ultimate fate? Were they suing the school district, or decrying the cannon tradition? Or were they simply an ::ahem:: easy target?
May she burn in hell with two shattered legs.
It seems from the article that “the town” expected them to not cooperate with an official investigation. It is not that they were actively asking for any action against the cannon/school/town.
I think you meant “cannon.” Canon means:
So that would be a really weird way to go.
Hence, post #3.
And here I thought this thread was about an exploding printer.
Myself, I was wondering what Alan Bloom was up to these days…

I was kind of picturing someone getting brained with an Anthology of English Literature, myself
But a 41 year old? You fucking loser!
Back off. The woman is a saint.
She should be cannonized.
I wondered how Johann Pachelbel’s famous work could possibly be injurious to anyone.
I’m happy that someone was arrested, but reading the article it seems like it was far more than just one person making threats.

I wondered how Johann Pachelbel’s famous work could possibly be injurious to anyone.
Honestly, if you ever played in an elementary or high school level orchestra, you’ve played that stupid, simplistic piece enough times to make your eyeballs bleed. (It’s been nearly three years since I even played in an organized group, and I can still play it from memory).

That was, of course, written as the background music for the ill-fated attempt of young Sandra of the '60s beach movies to break into serious acting, a dramatic movie about an affair between a cathedral official and a nubile young parishioner, the movie’s working title being “Canon in Dee”

Years ago I spent a football season firing the old 4 pound cast bronze cannon at University of Cincinnati games. This is an actual cannon not some home made piece of shit. The reason I got the job; I was in Army ROTC but more importantly had spent 3 years in the US Army Artillery firing fire real howitzers.
They’re letting children shoot a cannon made by other children in shop class!!! Holy Crap. There is a reason Artillerymen have their own patron Saint, St. Barbara. Cannons even modern ones have a nasty tendency to explode. This tendency is reduced by proper maintenance, and monitoring for tube wear. Here they just looked the other way. They X-rayed the tube and knew it was suffering from wear and still used it!! This kid was a victim of horrible incompetence and disregard for safety. Sue the bastards.
And from professional experience I want to know, how the hell does 5oz of gun powder cause a metal tube (even a poorly made one) to fracture? There should have been no projectile or other obstruction to cause a build up of force in the tube. Either that tube had the structural integrity of a cracked egg shell or somebody shoved something down the muzzle after the powder. I’m willing to bet someone shoved some streamers or confetti down the barrel to be shot out.
