Remember these? [nostalgic things]

Last night I dug out an old container of dental floss. It was cinnamon flavored. It reminded me of those cinnamon flavored toothpicks I used to get as a kid. Remember those?

Man, I used to love those things! I’d make them myself with cinnamon extract. I’d stuff as many toothpicks as would fit, and the jar (vial? phial?) would last for weeks.

I want to say I had one of those flavored toothpicks in the last maybe 5-6 years. I think they’re still around.

You can still get them. You can also make them with cinnimon oil, a glass spice jar and tooth picks.

Please make a minimal attempt at descriptive thread titles.

IIRC Cinna-Pix was the popular brand in the 1970’s. They were flat toothpicks.

Still available but they’re round now.

I do remember buying a tiny bottle of cinnamon oil and soaking my own toothpicks.

I remember my dad using them as a cigarette substitute when he quit smoking, back in about 1966.

Seriously, you had no idea this thread was about nostalgic things?

Hmm, great idea! Off to the store.

The way we play “can anyone help me find” around here, this thread could have been about anything. Still can, if anyone wants to expand it.

Anyone remember those candy cigarettes that had powdered sugar or something in the wrapper? You could puff out “smoke”. I think the candy itself was boring.

Moderator Note

Nope. From the thread title and OP it’s not clear at all if this thread is specifically about cinnamon flavored toothpicks or if it’s a generic thread about nostalgic things. Since this post implies the latter, I have edited the title to more clearly indicate that as the topic.

I remember candy cigarettes, but they didn’t have a wrapper. They were a white candy with a red colored tip, and didn’t make smoke.

Now you kids can smoke just like mom and dad!

Yes, I do remember most of these.

I miss “penny candy”. A local small store that had candy that cost 2 for a penny.

I try to explain to my kids, and they just look at me strangely and then say “Who eats candy?” Not sure if I’ve hurt or helped them :frowning:

Also, yes, candy cigarettes with the wrapper that you could blow “smoke” out of.

I was going to mention bubble gum cigars, but I see they’re still made.

The candy cig with the wrapper was gum, wasn’t it? The other ones you can still get. Of course they’re not called ‘candy cigs’ but ‘candy sticks’.
Chicko-stix, I used to love those things. I got one recently. Kinda nasty.
I was in a store that had a bunch of nostalgia type candy, you know orange slices and circus peanuts. You could buy a whole bag of the marshmallow bits like the ones in Alpha-bits cereal. Who needs that?

The cinnamon toothpicks were popular when I was in grade school, and like others have said, you can make your own with a bottle of cinnamon oil. Eventually one of my classmates discovered you didn’t even need toothpicks, you could just put a drop of oil on your tongue, although it burned like hell. Eventually the teacher caught on what was going on, and tried to ban it. What finally brought the hammer down is someone dropped his (and it was always a he) bottle on the vinyl floor and it ate part away part of the floor, leaving a nice set of pits in the vinyl. They essentially searched everyone and their desks and coats and bags to confiscate the evil stuff.

This was also about the same time that Creepy Crawlers and Incredible Edibles came out. Only the kids with really really nice parents got those for Christmas, and the kids who had the machines would make the little figures and sell them for five or ten cents each.

I remember those chick-o-stix! I used to love them. I’m sure my tastes have changed since.

I used to also love teaberry gum. I think they might still make it. It used to be at almost every store that sold gum.

Who remembers the Teaberry Shuffle?

Jarts.
