“Lone Star” or “Ranger Lonestar” or something like that. He was a part NativeAmerican ranger or sheriff in a sorta futuristic southwest setting, had a friend who was a transforming robotic horse named 30/30, enemy was “TexMex”, Curium was a gem they used for money and energy, and the LoneStar guy could call upon the powers of Eagle, Bear, Wolf, and something else.
It was my one of my alltime favorite shows as a kid, but it seems to have completely dissolved into the ether. Anyone else remember this? Any idea where I might be able to find toys or videos of it?
Yeah, Silver Hawks was great, too. But what was the one with Ace MacCloud (Air) and Jake Rockwell (Land) and Ray something (Sea), who could have their equipment beamed down to them from their home base/satelite? Ring a bell? They had the- I mean THE- coolest action figures of all time.
Babar, the cartoon you’re talking about is ‘The Centurions’. I LOVED that cartoon as a kid; the scenes where all the different weapons and equipment gets beamed down to them and attaches to their armor were incredible (at least to me when I was an easily amused littl’un).
Visionaries also rocked the casbah! Very underrated and short lived. Never owned any of the action figures but I thought the cartoon rocked.
Another toy based show of which I owned no merchandise, Captain Power was an excellent live action series. Well written I though.
Or, to put it another way, Tex-Hex. Or just call him Skeletor in a cowboy hat.
Bravestarr’s finest hour was a crossover pilot for a Sherlock Holmes-in-the-future show. The directing for these episodes was far above average, and Bravestarr himself was relegated to a goofy supporting role. The Holmes show didn’t catch on at the time, though I think I saw a version of it in recent years.
Now, who remembers “Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors”? I do, though not necessarily fondly. Just spinning the thread.
(Checking the iMDB, I see that the guy who did Thundarr’s voice was Robert Ridgley - aka the Colonel from Boogie Nights. Reason number 3,756 why I love the iMDB).
Ah, ** Visionaries**, I loved that show…though I kept wondering howcome that guy who did Starscream’s voice didn’t take some cough drops. He had a great voice, but it also sounded so painful!
I knew it! I knew it! Blackstar DID exist! It was only on for a year, though.
See if the imdb’s description jogs your memory:
Astronaut John Blackstar’s shuttle passes through a black hole and crashes on the planet Sagar. He is rescued by the gentle Trobbits, who live under the tyranny of the Overlord, possessor of one half of an all-powerful sword. Armed with the other half, Blackstar aids the resistance with his dragon, Warlock; the shape-shifter Klone; and the sorceress, Mara.
I knew it! I knew it! I can sleep in peace now! I have too much time on my hands!
Hey, I was just thinking about Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors…the rogue space ship pilot was such an obvious knock-off from Han Solo…
What about that Japanimation thing where the spaceship/airplane would turn into this flaming phoenix when it went into a certain “mode”…and there were 4 primary characters all dressed up as different kinds of birds (the chick in the white bird outfit was hot)…the animation really reminded me of the old Speed Racer…also this cartoon I’m thinking of was resurrected about 5 years ago with a different set of scripts all overlayed over most of the original animation…
I find it very disturbing that I know, without having to check, that it’s Hawk, Bear, Wolf, and Puma. And I think the gem was in fact called “karium”.
I could be using those brain cells to design a cure for world hunger, or at the very least plans for world domination. But no, instead I can recall most of the theme song. And half of the “spells” from Visionaries.
I so desperately need mental floss.
Oh, DirkGntly, you’re thinking of “Science Ninja Team Gatchaman” and its English language version, “Battle of the Planets”. And there were 5 primary characters.
Sounds like Battle of the Planets or G-Force I think was the other name for it. It’s enjoying a resurgence in popularity now thanks to a new comic book series.
Yep, that was it, “Battle of the Planets”…they had this R2D2 kinda robot thingy that would comment at the end of each episode and narrate parts of it, too, IIRC. I think the G-Force one was the newer one that just put new dialogue over the old animation…
I don’t suppose “Brave Starr” had a big green character with a big, old-fashioned looking mustache, did it? I had a toy from a Scifi-Western series that looked like that.
Yes it did, Ranchoth. IIRC, that’d be the Handle Bar person mentioned in the action figures part of the Bravestar site. (The page it links to is missing.)
Anyone else have fond memories (or bad memories, I’m not fussy) of Mighty Orbots ? I can even name 'em without having to look it up. Tor, Bort, Bo, Boo, Crunch and Ono.
