Remove name from caller ID

I have an odd situation. My long term girlfriend lives with me and has for years. We just broke up and I just moved the Cox phone service into my name. She will be staying at my place for several months until her finances are such that she can move out without going instantly bankrupt.

When I took over, the phone now reads my name on other peoples’ caller IDs when I call them. The problem is that she works from home and uses the phone quite a bit. It is problematic for my name to be popping up on her business calls. We can’t just use caller ID blocking, because a “restricted number” call looks even worse.

If this was a cell phone it is a 30 second fix to change what the name associated with the account is, but on a land line it appears to be harder, and calling Cox did not help.

I certainly do not want to have to change the service back to her name, then change it back to mine again once she goes, as it was a real pain the first time.

Does anyone know of any way to either change the name associated with the account to hers or to have it blank?

Thanks

I do not know the solution to your stated problem, but as a crutch, you could just use Google Voice (GV). Your girlfriend can set up her own number and make all her outgoing calls using the GV interface on her computer. GV acts as an exchange and will call your number (or any number that is configured) when an outgoing call is made. The other person only sees the GV number. This way she can seamlessly transfer to a new number when she moves.

For $40, she could also buy an OBi100 VoIP box that would allow her to use GV with her own phone just like a land line. No monthly fees and unlimited calls!

Awesome, that is just what I was looking for. Thanks.
