"Renfield" with Nicholas Cage as Dracula

I searched and no thread…

I went to this yesterday and I have to say it was a lot of fun–it’s tonally all over the place going from over the top horror to broad comedy to stylized action (reminded me of Kick-Ass that way). It definitely got edited down as there’s evidence of some cut/pared down subplots and characters but nothing that really takes you out of it.

Nicholas Hoult does a great job of doing some heavy lifting with all the different tones. Awkwafina is great. And Cage is a blast as Dracula. Ben Schwartz is a nice surprise but is basically playing his one character just a bit more violent.

I left a review over in the “Movies you’ve seen recently” thread:

It’s not great cinema by any measure, but I thought it was a lot of splattery fun. Nicholas Cage once again proves that there’s no role so overwritten that he can’t still overact it. If you like that kind of thing (I like that kind of thing) it’s fantastic, but if you’re tired of Nicholas Cage, stay the hell away from this movie.
