The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Like many of you I am in an abusive relationship.

With Nicolas Cage.

In his attempt to appear in every movie on the planet he keeps putting out shit and I keep watching it.

Actually went to a matinee yesterday on complimentary tickets and saw Cages new flick.

He’s become such a caricature of himself and he uses that to the hilt in this film. All of his movies are very hit or miss. This one is actually entertaining as hell. Get’s a little cliche and predictable at the end. But over all I say he nailed it.

He was good as the voice of Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. But again, there was an element of self-deprecation in his performance.

FWIW, here’s a 2 1/2 year old thread from when this movie was first announced:

I’m Nick fuckinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng Cage!

That line just got me.

He’s got a lot of money problems, so he pretty much has to say yes to anything and everything.

To his credit, he’s at least good humored about it and he rarely ever just phones it in; he seems to give every project his all.

I saw the movie; it’s fun.

According to the movie itself, it’s a small artsy film about two guys who form a friendship over film-making. But, of course, that would be boring to watch and no one would go to see it, so it throws in some action to rope in viewers.

And that is what it is.

I’ve heard that his recent movie “Pig” is actually pretty good.

Oh, yes. I like Nick Cage very much. Which is why I watch his movies.

But some of them are truly awful. He isn’t, but the films are.

This film wasn’t bad at all.

It is a good film. You may have to watch it twice to really grasp it but Cage felt it was some of his best work and I would agree.

Nicolas Cage: Good or Bad?

Nick Cage is certainly capable of a wider range of roles, but yes, most of his recent ones have worked towards playing to his eccentricities rather than against. That being said, many of the movies have been terrible, but some of even the (arguably) terrible movies have been great fun. I really, really loved (in a probably not healthy way) Mandy, and enjoyed Willy’s Wonderland (which is tons of fun despite being overly ham-handed in the “look at how stupid 80s horror movies were”).

For the record, I would argue that Mandy is a decent to good movie and great for arguing about what is /is not real with friends for a night with booze, and Willy’s Wonderland is probably objectively bad, but a ton of fun to watch, especially if you look back on watching said 80s horror movies with nostalgia and chagrin.

Heard about his money problems, made a bunch of money then overspent wildly on real estate.

He’s been an intense actor since he starred in his own films as a teenager. I think he loves doing it whatever the part. I expect to see this movie eventually.

Got the “Pig” DVD from the library. I was right; it was indeed a good movie.

If you really want to test your love for Nick Cage, try watching Prisoners of the Ghostland. Apparently highly rated Japanese director doing his first English Language film.

Seriously fkn strange. I bailed about 30 minutes in when his left testicle was blown off and came bouncing toward me.
