Renting out rooms for Super Bowl attendees

my sister wants to cash in on the Super Bowl next month by renting out rooms in her home. Someone has told her that she could get $1,000 per day per room.
(The person wants $500.00 up front to list her rooms) Her house is 37 miles away from the stadium.

Anybody rented rooms for a major event? Success? Problems?

I’ve never done it, but people here do it all the time, especially in February, when we have a lot of events going on in town. Why does she have to pay someone $500, though? There are plenty of free or low-cost venues to advertise them- craigslist, for instance.

I hate to say this, but anyone who says you can make $1,000 after giving them $500 had better be offering you a big bag of crystal meth in exchange.

Have her list it herself on Craiglist and require a $500 cashier’s check refundable upon check-out and a cashier’s check for the full amount of the stay.

37 miles out? She’d be lucky getting a few hundred a night.

When the 2002 Winter Olympics came to Salt Lake, there were a lot of locals who were promised similar huge winfalls for renting out their homes.

For the most part, the only ones who were actually happy at the end of the games were the brokers who charged a big fee (up front, of course) to all the greedy and gullible local homeowners hoping to stick it to the hoards of “rich foreigners” that they had been assured would decend on SLC like locusts with cash to burn.

Do you really think ANYONE is going to pay a $1000 bux to crash in a room that’s nearly 40 miles away from the action???

Money up front screams “scam” to me.

Tell them you’ll pay them a commission if they get someone to buy.

If you pay them $500, they make $500 without having to deliver a thing. If they get a 50% commission, they’re going to have to work for their money.

Scam. My friend rented his nice three-bedroom condo in Miami- literally within spitting distance of Dolphin Stadium or Landshark Stadium or whatever it’s called this week- for the whole of Super Bowl week last year… for $1200.

ETA: Although it should be noted that Opa Locka is not the kind of place you want to be after dark.
