replacing an air filter in a fridge ..was sears trying to sell me some BS?

Ok aunt has a fridge from sears that requires a water filter to be replaced every year or so for her icemaker/water setup

Well when i called to order said filter and he completed the purchase for her the “sales technician” flew into a sales pitch about replacing the air filter on the fridge
Now no1 we didn’t even know it had an air filter on it and 2 when the warranty repair guy comes out and makes sure everything works every year they’ve never mentioned it either
So was sears just trying to sell me on something that can be replaced but isn’t essential or should I be concerned?

I have both an LG and a Samsung french door refrigerator. They each have an air filter and fan. The fan circulates air to keep the temperature even throughout, and the charcoal filter is supposed to catch any funky odors from cheese or whatever is in there.

If there are no funky odors, don’t worry about it.
