Often a thread can be recognized as spam just from the title and the mouseover text. How about a button to report the thread without having to open it and report the original post?

Well, aside from the longstanding policy of not introducing user mods to the software, there is the issue that one would have to open the thread, anyway, to submit the post noting that the thread had been reported.
