“All” may be too strong a word. The Canes Booster Club worked the phones for the UNC-TV public TV fundraiser last night. I was behind Announcer #2, and got lots of on air time. One lady even recognized that I was the one taking her pledge. I’m at the end of the table. Good thing it was in high Def last night, because my left eye lid is swelling up today. I also dreamed Nelly came home, and brought her puppies with her. Off to bed.
ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!! Two fucking hours to drive 17 fucking miles!!! It took me over an hour just to get off of Ft Lewis!
I need to breathe and calm down. Christ, what the hell is wrong with people?!
I posted “First on the page!”, then saw I was last. What you saw was the obfuscating edit.
First of all, lots of prayers for soapy.
Secondly, I read all, but retained nothing.
Thirdly, for my tell all, I have been watching my marriage circling the drain for a while now, and it’s about time I quit trying to hang on and just let it go.
Blah. Let’s not dwell on that, though, okay?
Serious Tea.
She loves pomeranians.
My darling angel granddaughter.
Or perhaps she is a fairy.
:: hugs for kai :: And your granddaughter is beautiful. That second picture is so cute!
I hate knitting books too, Rigs. The problem is that you have to know how to knit in order to understand the beginners books. I learned how to knit/garter in one 5 minute lesson in 7th grade. I learned how to purl…a few months ago. (I’m pretty sure I ranted in an MMP about it.)
(((Soapy))) is there a simple section of the test that your lab assistant can pre-grade for you? Multiple choice or somesuch? Then all you’d need to do is furiously finish the essay part or whatever is left.
oooooooooooo our very own doggio is a celebrity. On the teevee and everything.
Kai, I was thinking about you the other day. I have a new friend who moved to Boston from Alaska to be with his girlfriend in grad-school. He’s a salmon fisherman and only works in the summer, usually around Kodiak island.
(((((Kai)))))
Taters, that sounds about like any day in Boston. It takes 45 minutes to get 5 miles…
Awww, sorry to hear that, kai. Hugs. Tea is lovely.
A tad frustrated Taters? Sounds rotten.
I’d just like to say, “I knew doggio when…”
A lot of little desk things are sorted, reorganized and back in the desk (secretary, really; excellent storage space, for the most part. Wish it had more cubby holes or drawers or something, though.
Guess I’ll go off to bed. Maybe I’ll sleep better than last night.
GT
Ugh, yeah, I was frustrated. This commute USED to take 20 minutes, tops. As this area has develped, my commute has grown longer. I can handle 45 minutes, but when it takes over an hour just to drive less than a MILE because no one will let anyone in, then I get a little angry.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, kai.
Dinner is just about done, thank goodness.
Aww, lots of hugs all around tonight. And thoughts and prayers too. Your grandaughter is beautiful, kai - yes, she is a little fairy! Poor Doggio, let’s just hope that your dream does -not- come true! Congrats on the tv appearance, though.
I actually did a bit of Christmas shopping at Target this afternoon after work. By the time I got home, though, it was after 6 pm (I got up at 4 am, btw ) and I was very tired. I’m feeling somewhat rejuvenated since I napped for a bit, but have not started my baking/candy making yet–that will have to wait until tomorrow. I guess I’ll do a couple recipes tomorrow and then the rest on Wed. night (our holiday party is Thursday).
See, the thing is, Tigs, that Bear is supposed to be Himself’s dog–his bestest buddy the way Widget is to me. Now one of the major ways you make a dog yours like that is you HAVE to be the one to train it. Some things, like “sit” and “down” and “no” and “leave it” are things that any and everybody can and should join in reinforcing with the dog, but leash training is a HUGE component of bonding and the person who leash trains a dog is very likely to be the one the dog minds best overall. So I’ve been just taking Bear along on walks because it would be so mean and horrible to leave him behind when Widget gets to go, and not only is it not my place to be leash training Bear, but it’s next thing to impossible when you have TWO dogs at once. Widget is just fine on a leash and it would be endlessly frustrating for him to have a walk spoiled by the technique Bear needs most right now, which is the immediate change of direction every time he pulls. So I’m going to get a tad bitchy regarding pet responsibilities very soon, and if Himself doesn’t step up then he’s just going to have to cope if Bear bonds to me because I’m the one who trains him. Already it’s moving that way because I’m taking the pups on walks but Himself has been sequestering himself away what with the new job and all and isn’t taking care of bidness. He has this little problem with multi tasking and making time for necessary activities, you see. I’m used to being ignored for weeks when he gets fixated, but an active half grown dog is not so phlegmatic, nor nearly as patient.
So yeah. I did notice that getting the leash under one front leg so it pulls downward and inhibits his stride definitely has a big effect on Bear so I’m thinking that a harness or a Halti might be a better option. He’s a good dog, but when you’re talking a cross between a lab and a husky you’re talking a dog whose entire brain activity ceases when go-for-a-walk is in the offing. He’s very difficult to get focused on the task at hand, his ears just turn off! He can also pull like a freight train and is completely unaware of the fact that he’s cutting off 90% of his air supply… He needs a half hour of leash work per day, no excuses and he’s not getting it. I also would rather not have to be the one to work one-on-one with Bear because Widget is VERY jealous of me and I don’t want them to get competitive over my time and attention. I’ll do it if I have to, but I’d much rather Himself get it together and train his dog.
{{{Soapy}}} Travel safely, I’m sending strength and healing thoughts to you…
I’m with Tigs, Bobbio, WTF is your wife’s problem? If I had a man around who does all the stuff you do AND had a day job I’d be kissing your feet! She needs a big fat reality check, and THEN the trout slap!
Glad I helped at least a little bit, Rigs, but seriously once you see purling done you’re gonna be all :smack: “That’s EASY!” The right hand needle comes in from the back, your free yarn should be in FRONT of your needles so the RH needle can hook it and pull it back away from you to complete the stitch. Same thing you’re already doing, just backwards!
{{{kai}}} I’m sorry things aren’t going well for you and skiffman… Marriage is hard and boys are dumb. Tea is lovely, though, and your little furballs are teh kyoot! Did you keep any of the pups, or did they all find homes?
Got two words for ya, Taters–laser cannons! Traffic sucks ass and if I had my way about 75% of all drivers would be on the damned bus. Most people are absolutely crap at driving but they insist on doing it anyway…
You call that “all,” doggio? :dubious: Seems a mite… thin, after you became the unwitting OP inspiration and all. Sure hope your dream comes true, though. And why, pray tell, is your eye swelling up? You got some ‘splainin’ to do, young man!
I don’t usually respond to your posts but it’s impossible for me to ignore you.
You know those school shows? In Parts Abroad they may be things like A Midsummer Night’s Dream; in Parts Ahome they can be La Venganza de Don Mendo (1) or just a pile of sketches tossed together. Spanish college students do something called “passing the Equator:” all majors have several years where 90% of subjects are common followed by some “specialty” years. In the last common year, students go together on a trip. To get money for ours, one of the things we did was a “musical sketches show.” It involved among other highlights a guy doing Rocio Jurado (“if the Spanish football team had a forward like that, we’d never lose”) and reaching the conclusion that “men who dislike women in sensible shoes should be forced to learn to walk in stilettos, oh Jesus Child my feet are killing me and my back just doesn’t exist any more” (all the girls in the room applauded) and yours truly doing, solo… yeah. THAT song. So I can never see a post by our esteemed Muppet without getting an instant earworm
1: Don Mendo’s Revenge, a XIX century tragicomic play that makes fun of the whole “nostalgic nationalism” movement. In Spanish we describe a Real Big Drama as “even the prompter gets killed.” In Don Mendo… yep. The prompter gets killed by a stray blow.
quilter, I like your name.
I don’t understand knitting in Spanish, much less in English, yet I’m starting to suspect that “knitting” is “punto del derecho” and “purling” is “punto del revés.” Definitely not something you learn in ESL class.
Speaking of language, The Nephew (3yo, in case anybody has forgotten) has started preschool this year. He has two teachers, the general guy who’ll be his class teacher for three years and another one for Phys Ed. Only, it’s not Phys Ed, or Gymnastics. Nope. It’s “sicomotricidad.” The kidlets say it like 6-sillable words were the most natural thing in the world; half their grandmothers give up after “sico” and call it “sico that thing, gymnastics.”

Howdy Y’all! Just a driveby for now. Hugs, yays, boos, etc. as needed. Busy yesterday. Busy today comin’ up. Need more caffiene and some brekkies then get ready and get into work.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
What are you, me?
Sorry to hear of your troubles. And somehow the cold and dark makes everything worse (and I like cold and dark). Grandbaby is adorable (you might want to check ou the gnome thread in the Pit, though, for a primer on fairies).
Off to work soon, because it’s almost 0500! You all are jealous, I just know it…
Actually rigs I have read about your marital troubles and thought to myself “She’s living my life.” I suppose that once one becomes indifferent to the same old crap, it’s time to move on.
Thanks about Tea, she is such a light in my life.
Fairies in the pit? Intriguing.
Anyway, have a good day, you deserve one.
Is it Firday yet??
Morning, all. Alas, mousie, it is not Firday; it’s not even Humpday. Blergh.
I stayed up too late working and got up too early this morning to get back to it, so I can’t hang around here long. But {{Mumpers}} for with marriage problems. I’m sorry you guys are going through it; it’s no fun. But everybody’s right, kai, Tea is a seriously darling little girl! Give her lots of extra hugs from all your invisible internet friends, okay?
It’s chilly and grey and raining and supposed to get chillier and stay grey and raining. For the next three or four days. Yuck. I’m ready for this to turn to snow and at least be pretty. As long as it doesn’t get as cold as it is up snowbunny’s way, where right now, according to the National Weather Service, it’s a warm and delightful 0°. That’s F, not C. Although apparently the wind chill makes it feel like a toasty -9°. Again, ! And their low temp Friday is forecast to be…well, I’ll let her tell you that. It’s seriously  weather. And the high for the next ten days is forecast to be 15°. So I much prefer our middling temps for some strange reason!
Okay, off to feed the Idiots and then back to work.
She thinks that if I’m not at home to kiss her royal ass when I’m not working or handling an emergency, I’m off fooling around on her. You’ve seen my pictures. I couldn’t get laid in a monkey whorehouse if I took in a truckload of bananas.
One of the oft heard sayings 'round the VunderLair: “I’m your husband, not your goddamned butler.”
Darnit, I can’t get the videos on that knitting site to work.
Hugs for rigs and kai. Oh, and you, too, bobbio. Think Imma gonna give Mr. Anachi some extra hugs tonight. I am a very lucky lady.
muppet, I hope you don’t really feel ignored here. You is one of the Kool Kids!
smarty, I say go with the halti. Husky X dog will just think a harness means it’s time to pull harder.
quilter, can we call you Q? And do you really quilt?
Department head and team leader went to Miami this morning and will be gone all day. I am already bored and the coughing and post nasal drip sound effects all around me are getting to me. Arrrrrrrggggghhhh!
I am on book 3 of the Twilight series and am about a hair’s breadth from hurling this insipid series against the wall. The only thing stopping me is that the books belong to my daughter and she loved them so I will finish. But really
YMMV
I woke up to snow! I know that people are getting hammered in the northeast but we almost never get real snow and it’s a big celebration when we do. It’s so beautiful. If it lasts until school is out the mountain will be full of kids going nuts because they’ve never seen it before. As soon as it gets light I’m going out to build a snowman unless it rains first and turns to slush. This is great
Karyn, where are you from?
