Reporting Live From.....A Tell-All MPP

Supper was teh yum! So was ice cream. We’re now in the evening chill mode.

Is it Firday yet?? Pleeze??

MamaTigs, they’re now saying it’s only supposed to get to -10F overnight Friday. Though I’m not sure if that’s really much better than -17. I’m getting a block heater installed on Thursday. I’d rather not spend the money, but I’d also rather not have my car freeze up completely and cost me a lot more money that I don’t have at all!

It’s supposed to warm up and snow next week, but until then I’ll be freezing my buns off up here. My house does seem to stay pretty toasty, though.

No, you’re not, rosie. Not at all. Geeks of the world unite!

It’s my Firday, FCM! Nyah nyah!

I shoveled. I might as well as saved myself the effort (but think of all the calories I burned!). I will have to do it again before I go to bed.

No nap for me. Eating bread and cheese–I don’t like Hamburger Helper and that was what was for dinner…
Sent #1 son over to FIL’s to shovel and rock salt their steps. See? I’m nice.

Hmmmm… furnace guy is here checking on a leaky connection, and seems to have discovered something entirely more worrisome. At least, this is what I deduce from the very unhappy sounds coming from the basement at the moment.

Stoopit furnace broke down twice last winter, which means we’ve now replaced two out of three major components. I’m cool with starting up annual traditions and all, but this is not a particularly desirable one (especially since most of their service guys are nowhere near as cute as the babyface they sent over today).

I’m finished exams! I did absolutely nothing today and it was glorious.

Okay, that’s not true: I folded some towels for the bathroom. And went out to return some comic books at the local store. And my brother just finished baking some banana bread with chocolate chips–his specialty–so it smells amazing in here, too.

Who’s up for hot cocoa with marshmallows?

We have a gen-yoo-wine alien postin’ in the mmp? Howdy Q!

Ummmm… the high temp today was 80 Amurrkin. Gonna stay that way the rest of the week. Then next week we’ll be in the chilly 60s. I wore a short sleeved shirt today and will wear short sleeves the rest of the week. Yay!

In other news… I get to work Christmas day. I figured I would all along, just got all official yesterday. I’m good with it though. It will either be a very busy day or really, really, really boring. So, I’ll head up to see the family over the weekend instead. Oh… I work New Year’s Day too. I’ll still have my traditional NYD dindin though. It’ll just be lots of prep the night before and instead of fried chicken I’ll do meatloaf which I happen to like a lot and make really good.

kai sorry about the marriage woes. Tea is a lil’ ol’ cutie!

Get wells to all you sickies.

Howdy to all the other new posters as well. I’d call y’all by name but then I’d forget somebody so I won’t.

I suppose I should go wade through emails. I haven’t checked email in three days so I’m just sure my email’s chock full of email goodness.

Later Y’all!

Hugs to everyone who’s struggling.

Please don’t feel ignored, Muppet. I always enjoy reading what you write.

And Nava, I think you’re right about punto del derecho and del revez. I originally learned to knit in Spanish. I can’t remember if my grandmother or my godmother taught me how, but whoever it was, they didn’t do as thorough a job as I’d have liked, so it never really went anywhere. It would be fun to get back to, but I’m not there yet.

::Waves at all the newbies::

Had a stressful day, although my big presentation went quite well. I have two and 1/2 days before vacation and I want everyone to leave me alone so that I can get important stuff done.

Really don’t want to have to be near a computer while I’m on vacation.

Retirement potluck tomorrow. Need to go get stuff for what I’m bringing.

Back after a bit.

70F yesterday.

45F today.

68F tomorrow.

45F Thursday.

65F Friday.

I foresee a lot of pneumonia calls next week…

You’re not alone, Rosie; when I hear Q, I think of Capt. Picard, too.

And see, snowbunny? Maternal nagging is sometimes a useful thing, especially when it keeps your car from freezing solid!

We own the house my MIL lives in, Muppet, and we recently had to replace the entire furnace, down to the ductwork. Ouch! Even if, through a friend of a friend, we got a great deal (but a bonded, licensed, experienced company, don’t worry – for something like that, we’re not going to jeopardize our insurance!), it still was a painful experience. We do need to see about getting the ductwork in this house cleaned out, though; I think that may be the source of Papa Tigs’ allergy problems. He’s had a runny nose since we moved here.

As for me, I is blah. I worked my ass off getting that stupid job done, then gave up and crawled in bed for a long nap since I got next to no sleep last night. I’m feeling semi-human now, but still definitely blah. And to make it even more blah, I just had to run out for a couple things (the drawback to Papa Tigs being out of town – usually I can persuade him to run those little errands), and it’s 36° and raining out. Yuck and yuck. This is a good evening to stay in and keep warm for the rest of the evening, that’s for sure! Blah.

Smartie, Christmas is actually not that big a deal here in Korea. Our academy is famous for having only two days off in the entire year and neither of those days are Christmas - actually this year, for the first time ever, we have Christmas off. It’s also more of a couple/friend holiday here - my Korean friends think I’m bizarre for wanting to spend it with my family. :dubious:

I hope we have a white Christmas. We do have them occasionally, but not in a few years.

I worked in Hayward for a while too but I drove up highway 1 and across 92 instead. It was a nice way to start the day compared to the terrors of 17 at rush hour.

<Planning Dept> Last Chance? What’s that? I swear I never saw a thing. </Planning>

I had some chicken white chili tonight, leftover from Sunday night. I kinda winged it on that recipe and must have put in a bit too much chicken broth (no-sodium kind, btw)–it was soupy and I also didn’t put enough seasoning in it because it was very mild, even with a 4 oz. can of green chilis! So when we heated it up tonight, I added more spices, including red pepper flakes, and we took some of the broth out. Boy, it doctored up good! I love chili, but some times I don’t like the tomatoes in it, so the white chili is all good for me. And the weather is just perfect for chili tonight.

BIG HUGS for all who need them. Tonight I’m going to make the peppermint bark and I may just bake some pumpkin bread. Or make the chocolate fudge. LOL What a dilemma! At least tomorrow is hump day, and Thursday is our office holiday party.

Can someone please tell the counter in my brain that counting to 3 is really not that difficult? This scarf/hat set for Papa Tigs involves an incredibly simple pattern – cast on a multiple of 3; K2, P1 across every row. It makes a nice textured rib. But can I remember to only P1? Of course not. Apparently my counter desires symmetry this evening. :smack:

And can someone please tell me why I bought 400 grams of yarn for this set? If I use up 200, I’ll be shocked. Mind you, that leaves me 200 grams of really pretty yarn that would probably make a nice pair of warm socks, but why did I overestimate the amount of yarn so insanely?

Well, just another day in paradise, lol. Dark and cold, but I think I mentioned that earlier.

You know, now that I have shared my situation I feel better. It was becoming difficult to post while I had a huge elephant in my rl. I don’t hate skiffman, it’s mostly indifference and irritation. I am tired of his mind games and passive/aggressiveness, and complete lack of motivation and the ability to stay within the household budget. Add to that the facts that I am approaching peri-menopause and he is hitting his midlife crisis, it all makes for an unhappy household, and in particular an unhappy me.

So I am going to be heading off to water aerobics in 45 minutes, it feels good to be out of my funk enough to begin working on my physical health. The pool at the Coast Guard Base is very nice, with floor to ceiling windows and lots of big plants, and I like the T-Th afternoon/Saturday morning instructor much better than the M-W-F butt crack of dawn instructor. I am not a morning person at all, so this is working well for me. My daughter’s MIL and I are going, and I talked my SIL into coming with us tonight, it should be fun.

Not much else to say, it has been a quiet day. Perhaps I’ll check out the night crew later.

Ta.

In no particular order:

Bobbio: I’m more of a wine or (good) beer type than martini drinker – and besides, I don’t look at thing like Sean Connery!

I’m not a first responder. On the ICS org chart, I’m a PIO. I have a Really Long And Official-Sounding Title, but the Chief calls me “Communications Manager”. That means I write speaking points for the Chief and the Commissioner, the web site, grants, and get to be the final authority on all grammar/spelling/punctuation questions. I get to work with the heroes, though, and do my best to make them sound good!

Rosie, snowbunny, Swampus, MamaTigs, and perhaps others: I’m a geek. Captain Picard’s nemisis was my first thought, too. I, being a clever newb, will leave the nickname (if any) decision to the MMPers.

Karyn: I actually liked driving 17 in the commute. At least I was driving with other folks who knew the road. (It helped to think of it as a waltz. Honest!) My pals would NOT let me drive 17 when tourists were on the road.

kaiwik: {{hugs}}

Current forecast: blech. Low tonight will be 14 (-10 C). Snow, then rain, then snow tomorrow. (Sounds like a layer of ice, to me!) Then more snow. Then more of the same, including snow/ice/snow the night before I’m supposed to be on a plane to my sis’s at zero-dark-thirty next Monday.

I think I’ll go find something dinnerish.

::Waves at Q::

More hugs for kai. Hope the water aerobics helps.

I’m back from the grocery store. We have freezing rain and it’s quite annoying. I had to scrape before leaving home and then scrape again before leaving the store. I would have walked to the store, but I wasn’t sure if it was going to get worse quickly.

I’ve made the taco meat for the lovely Puerto Rican taco dip/salad that I’m taking to the potluck tomorrow, to our team lunch on Thursday and making as a snack for when my Mom gets here (I think the kids will like it). Recipe is already posted over here.

Now I’m going to grab a beerverage and read while trying to fall asleep. I’ll be up early to assemble the rest of the stuff for tomorrow’s edition of the dip/salad.

Nitey night…

GT

Huh. More snow. Maybe 8 inches, they say, Thursday night.

Gonna be fun digging out to go to work Friday. sigh I love snow, but couldn’t it decide to dump on us when I don’t have to go anywhere the next morning? Apparently when I asked for snow I wasn’t quite clear enough about exactly when it’d be good to get it. We really do need it though. And it’s going to be really pretty.

Yay! Furnace is okay!

Though I have to say, the repair guy really was quite cute… maybe I should try to arrange for a few more minor problems with the furnace so they can send him over again, preferably with enough notice for me to slip into something more… errr… comfortable

Looks like I’ll have some shovelling in the morning along with rigs and snowbunny. While I appreciate the spirit of sharing and all, it really wasn’t necessary to send your snow over here to pay us a visit.

gt, that taco dip thing sounds yummy. Maybe I’ll take a page from your book and bring that to my office pot luck.

Oh, and I don’t feel ignored by you guys at all (just a bad attempt at self-deprecating humour), but the reassurance is still very much appreciated nonetheless.

I shoveled. AGAIN. And it is still snowing, but I don’t care. I’m off to bed.
Night, all.

I’m one of those people that gets scared to pass on a curve so I get stuck behind a cement truck and have to go 45 the whole way. All of those skid marks on the dividers freak me out so it’s kind of a relief to get behind one of those behemoths and crawl along and let them get blamed for it. Thankfully I rarely have a reason to go over the hill.
