elucidator:
Well, you see, Norm, when a Republican tries to bugger a piece of legislation, then what you got there is your statutory rape…
Hey, that exactly what the Republicans are doing to Texas voting districts (again).

Kolga:
Thanks for the “I’m so much smarter than the rest of you sheep” schtick. I hadn’t had my share of it in…8 hours, since I taught my first freshmen of the semester today.
In all seriousness, while yes, there are corrupt aspects to government and politicians, you’re acting like politicians are a different species than the rest of us. They’ll definitely vote in their interests, but sometimes voting in their interests (getting re-elected) means voting in their constituents’ interests.
Plus, politicians are, you know, human beings, and they therefore might have friends, family members, and loved ones that would be affected by their votes, and they might, actually, you know, consider that.
Rather than acting like the Borg, come to conquer and assimilate.
They only care about the people who bribe them the most. The voters will forget by the next election.

No, they aren’t a separate species. Everyone in their position would be just as corrupt.
I’ll thank you not to presume which apprehensions and misapprehensions I am laboring under.

I’d listen to you, but you only say stuff that is in your own best interest so I can’t trust you. You are probably a Republican operative who doesn’t want me to vote so you can regain control of the Senate.

My take on this is that you are either:
a. 16 years old, or
b. willfully ignorant
Not that you give a shit what I think, of course.

This. The tone sounds to me as a late teen or early 20s person who’s just realized that the world isn’t perfect, and HOW DARE IT BE SO.
Piece without negotiations?

Didn’t Pearl Buck use a line about the lovely fields of rape blossoms, waving in the breeze or something similar?
Rape oil has been renamed Canola oil. It’s not a joke.
What the fuck is this “Obamacare” you are blathering about? Why don’t you define it, and then we’ll see if it has any bearing at all to reality.
“Canola oil” isn’t a euphemism for “rapeseed oil”. The name is derived from a particular cultivar of that plant, and
Rapeseed oil is one of the oldest known vegetable oils. There are both edible and industrial forms produced from rapeseed, the seed of several cultivars of the plant family Brassicaceae (mustards). The term "rapeseed" applies to oilseeds from the species Brassica napus and Brassica rapa, while the term canola refers to specific rapeseed varieties bred to produce oil for use in human and animal foods. In manufacturing, the edible varieties of canola are required to contain less than 2% erucic ...
So “Canola oil” isn’t simply a more polite name for “rapeseed oil”. The two aren’t identical – not all rapeseed is canola.
Although I sure wouldn’t blame them for renaming the plant. And some folks evidently are trying to.
But is it rape if Ms. Reform was drunk and confused and nodded her head when the Republicans asked her if she wanted to come? Especially since the Republicans were drunk too? Won’t someone please think of the Republicans?

Too busy thinking about the Rapeblicans, and their conspiracy to rename rapeseed ‘The Hitler Plant’, Adolficus napus .

This.
Whenever one of the Fox news watchers at work start blathering about “Obamacare” I ask them “What is the actual name if the healthcare bill Obama signed in to law?”
They don’t know, so then I say something like “Well then, we’ll talk about it again when you know what it is you’re talking about.”

Nancy Pelosi Makes a Funny:
Using a procedural tool called the motion to recommit, Democrats forced Republicans to take a stand on whether or not members of Congress should receive federal health care benefits. The measure would have made repeal of the health care law contingent on more than half of all members of Congress opting out of the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program.
a little more.

More that five or six people watch Fox News and actually believe it.
It’s about time the Democrats started using the Republican’s tactics against them.

His profile calls him a 24-y.o. who joined in 2001, so he could be a 34-year old or a guy who was fourteen when he joined.
Presuming anything in his profile has a one-to-one relationship with reality.
Or better yet, Adolficus rapeus .

Whatever. There’s very little chance this will pass the Senate and zero chance Obama will sign it if it does. Of course the Republicans know this, but they’re all hung up on posturing and symbolic victories, while nothing actually gets accomplished. In other words, business as usual on the Hill.
