Republicans: candidate who assaulted reporter is fine with us!

Yo Bricker:

Could you please use your awesome mind reading powers, and tell us just what the fuck your fellow traveller is talking about here?

Go ahead and post in the bombing thread, defending the bomber, if you want to get the post count up.

…I disagree. I don’t live in the United States of America. I don’t live with a hyper-partisan political system that only offers a binary choice. Party doesn’t matter to me. Policy does. I’m not irrationally loyal to a political party because “reasons.” You need to get over this “Democrat vs Republican” thing. That you think “political party” and “political positions” are interchangeable is fucking scary.

A “reaction” doesn’t need to be outrage: I could be severely disappointed with Gianforte, I could be severely happy with Gianforte, I could be severely content with Gianforte. Outrage is something quite specific.

So you’ve changed your thesis quite substantially. So which thesis are you standing behind? Because they are very different arguments.

Then you are wrong. Do you think I give a shit about Republicans or Democrats? I live on the other fucking side of the world for fucks sakes. You need to get over this partisan divide. Its destroying your soul.

I’m “hinting” to you that the three examples you’ve used in this thread have been stupid. And continuing to act as if they weren’t stupid examples was stupid.

This sentence is just plain stupid.

An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.

And it’s been explained to you, more than once, that he, or any other first time offender, is not likely going to serve time.

Are you slow?

This is the best you can do.

Wrong. Thanks for playing. We have some lovely parting gifts.

But this discussion is about the political situation in the United States of America. If you’d like to discuss things using New Zealand’s framework, I’ll do my best in the New Zealand thread.

You know very well that there will be no jail time.

You know very well that a first offense misdemeanor assault won’t get jail time.

Why would you deny this?

You can’t win an argument unless you misstate my position and then attack the new position you’ve created.

I’m done with you. Goodbye.

Congratulations, on a list containing arson, grand theft, and murder, you have absolved yourself (or, really, just denied) grand theft. :smack:

The exact words SteveG1 used were “He should be in jail.” Which is not a prediction or a matter of fact. It’s an opinion. And it’s one based in fact in that he could go to jail.

Nowhere when he cited the code did he state that it was likely. His entire posting history on the subject tells me that he wishes he would be jailed and that the offense he committed can lead to jail. Not that it would.

I think you should be forced to carry an unwanted child to term. I don’t have any penal code to back up that this is as within the realm of possibility and in fact I concede it is far less likely to occur than Dickhole go to jail for bodyslamming the reporter. But yet, I said it.

Is that expert opinion too?

He’ll point out that liberals do the same thing.

…what a fucking coward.

If you can’t respond to the substance of my argument then don’t bother responding at all.

Your thesis has changed. Any American who isn’t stupid can see that.

“That the outrage associated with this incident is grounded mainly in the political party of the malefactor” is not the same as “the severity of the reaction to this assault is grounded in the political positions taken by the assaulter.”

Can I ask you a serious question? Is this what you think it means to be American? This partisan battle, between left and right? That you can’t see a material difference between “political party” and “political position?” Do you honestly believe that people are “outraged” because this person is a Republican? Do you really think that if this Republican had apologised immediately (and even withdrew from the race) and been publicly and properly rebuked by his party then the outrage would have been exactly the same?

No: I think that we are all done with you. You’ve done the same fucking thing to me in nearly every conversation we’ve had here. I’ve constantly been correcting you. I’ve constantly had to say “no, that wasn’t what I said.” And when corrected you’ve ignored it. You even tried to sneakily change the wording of your thesis and when I called you out on it you’ve thrown a hissy fit.

So I think we are all done with you. You’ve managed to make this thread all about you. You’ve been a very good troll.

Okay. So, what kind of system do you favor to cover the hard-working people who don’t have the financial means to purchase health coverage from the Marketplace™? I presume since you’re “pro-life”, you are in favor of single payer or a similar system that prevents the deaths of those who need non-emergency room life-saving care but can’t afford to buy private coverage.

What is interesting about this little Todo is that it is similar to the argument about Clinton and his blowjob.

Clinton a) did something the vast majority of the country normally believes is unethical b) did so with someone who had very little power while he had enormous amounts of power (something that many people usually find unethical) and c) lied in court about it and got busted for contempt of court. Oh, and he had a history of doing this (the blowjob, not the contempt of court)

One side was full of moral outrage, the other thought it was no big deal and excused Clinton’s behavior*. This time, no one seems to be excusing the behavior but are minimizing the assault.

My personal opinion is that we, as a nation, need to stop playing partisan games and hammer anyone who pulls this kind of shit. Let the politicians know it is not acceptable and if you behave immorally, whether it is lying to a court or hitting a reporter, you get kicked out on your ass.

Of course, everytime I bring up this idea, the partisans think it is wonderful as long as it is only applied to the other side. And this kind of shit happens entirely too often in the U.S.

So, IMHO, this guy ought to go. However, I suspect that since the assault happened when it did, there will be lots of talk and moral outrage and nothing will ever happen.

Slee

*Clinton was fined by a court for giving false testimony and paid the fine. Giving false testimony, IMHO, ought to be enough to get any politician kicked out of office.

How is it good for the blood pressure to get so worked up on the internet?

And this is not a good troll.
