Republicans voting for Hillary in Dem Primaries.

Let me first say that I have no problem with people who Republicans who back Hillary because they genuinely like her ideas.

But I do have a problem with those people who are voting for her because they dislike her and view her as the nominee that would be easier for them to beat. I think they’re highjacking the process and without honor or integrity.

Goddammit.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about: Link 1 Link 2 Link 3

You never know, it could backfire on them.

Only Dems and Indeps can vote in PA, so it doesn’t matter now. Superdelegates and the convention will take these sorts of issues into account.

Looking back, I wish I had thought to change my registration to Pub in 2000 just so I could vote for McCain against Bush.

But that’s not because McCain would have been any easier for Gore to beat.

I did do that. Unfortunately though, in New York it doesn’t matter.

My husband switched sides to vote for McCain 8 years ago, but I admit it didn’t seem like a bad thing to do. His argument was that it seemed obvious the Republicans were going to win, and he would have rather had McCain then Bush.

But it angers me that people are switching sides to try to make sure McCain wins over Clinton. Personally, I voted for Obama. However, I will vote for Clinton if she is the candidate.

I worked at the election poll in Ohio and there were many many people switching “for one day only.” The high-up-muckety-muck threatened to take the people to court because they actually had to sign a paper saying that they support the Democratic Party. Oh well, she decided not to do it.

I hope that it backfires on all who did the switching.

Politics is not pure nor does it have honor. People vote the way they vote because they think it best serves their interests. No one is hijacking the process; they are using it.

I’ll vote for McCain over Clinton. Clinton has shown herself to be entirely incapable of doing anything right. Why should I vote for her?

Not only has this been discussed before, but I’d like to point out post #9, which links to a Daily Kos article encouraging Democrats to sabotage the Republican primaries back in January, with the intention of giving Romney the nomination, as he’d be the easier candidate to beat.

“Those people”, indeed.

I voted for Romney for much those reasons.

Add my cousin to the list. She’s a Republican to the core, and she voted for Hillary in the Massachusetts primary even though she’d sooner see a chicken as president than a Democrat. It’s, as she explained, all part of her plan to get McCain elected.

I’ll give ya three good reasons just to start with:

  1. Clinton is not a Republican. This year – not just any year, but very definitely this year – that ought to be enough and more than enough all by itself. The Pubs will never again be fit to govern until they have spent some time in the wilderness and purged their party of all neocon influence and of every little thing smelling of Bush-Cheney and, indeed, of every last remnant of the post-Goldwater conservative movement. Let the “Rockefeller Republicans” regain control of the party, and we’ll talk.

  2. At this particular juncture of history, McCain is too fucking dangerous for the job.

  3. Clinton, whatever else you might say about her, is smart. McCain . . . If he’s not senile now, you can be sure he will be before 2013.

Clinton is not fit to govern. I see no evidence that she will not bow to Neo-Con influence. She is willing to hurt the Democratic party just so she can have the pride of being the ‘First woman president’. It’s all about her, her, her. She has been my Senator for years now and hasn’t done a fucking thing. She got elected just because she wanted to be President. She is not qualified for anything, she just wants to be President. Party affiliation is not enough to get me to vote for a candidate.

Yeah, and Lyndon Johnson got us out of Vietnam.

Clinton is smart, but only smart enough to get what she wants. She can be smart but it’s all about ‘me, me, me’ with her. I stopped caring about her when I sent a letter talking about how I opposed the constitutional amendment on flag burning, and she sent me a letter saying basically, we appreciate hearing from people ESPECIALLY VETERANS on this issue, but flag burning is atrocious yadda yadda yadda. She went total Neo-Con party line right after 9/11 and didn’t vote in any way that showed she had any opinion of her own. She contributed to the climate of fear and played along. Unfortunately, both she and McCain disappointed me more than anyone else in the Senate, they both had the clout to stand up to Bush, and they didn’t. This campaign has totally soured me against her. The fact that she let Mark Penn run her campaign shows that she is criminally negligent. Just like Bush she will let nepotistic loyalties run her policy, and that is PROVEN by the existance of Mark Penn. The more capable supporters the Clintons had have jumped ship, like Bill Richardson.

Now, hear this loud and clear FUCK THAT SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTING BITCH!

It doesn’t matter though, Obama is going to win, and I’ll vote for him.

“Clinton, whatever else you might say about her, is smart.”

Holy fuckweasels-that’s the funniest goddamn thing I’ve read all day!

You know, in many contexts I agree that that’s true… but this is not a case of people being stuck in voting paradoxes and making cynical choices and (for instance) voting for a major party candidate they like less rather than a third party candidate they prefer because they want the lesser of two evils. This (if this is actually going on in meaningful numbers) (and for the record I condemn it regardless of which party is trying to screw which party) is a vastly more anti-democratic tactic. (Note that that’s lower-case-d-democratic.)

Someone who is under no circumstances going to vote for the Democratic candidate in the general election should not be voting in the Democratic primary. (Note the distinction between a Republican who switches his registration to democrat, votes for Hillary over Obama, and then votes for McCain over either of them; vs one who switches his registration, votes for Obama over Hillary, and then fully intends to vote for Obama in the general election.) (Or the other way around, of course.)

Heard Hillary the other day on the radio, “I’ve spent eight years in the White House…”

Yeah, and the lady who scrubs the shitters at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. could say the same thing.

Lyndon Johnson did not, at any rate, get us into Laos or Cambodia. McCain very probably would get us into Iran, which on the Stupid Reckless Scale would be equivalent to Johnson getting us into China. Clinton, despite her recent and predictable bluster WRT Iran, never would do that. The worst she would do would be to maintain the regrettable status quo in the Mideast for most (not all) of her term.

I’m a democrat that has both dishonestly voted in the Republican primaries, and will not vote for Hillary if she’s nominated. Is this the thread for that?

Dem here who has no problem with it.

You cast the vote that maximizes your benefits. That can be (1) the candidate from your party who best represents your interests, (2) the candidate from your party you think has the best chance of winning the November election, (3) the candidate from the opposing party your least disagree with, or (4) the candidate from the opposing party who stands the best chance of losing in November.

If you’re willing to choose (2) over (1), then I don’t see any reason to not go all the way and consider (3) and (4) as well.

I don’t think Republicans feel Clinton will be easier to beat or that she’ll get the nomination anyway. I think the strategy now is just to try to keep her in the race to keep the Democrats divided.
