It pretty much is prohibited in that a doctor in the US would lose their license if they performed gender reassignment surgery on a minor outside of some extreme extenuating circumstances.
There is also not a specific law that states that a minor can’t seek out a doctor to remove their pinky toe, even though they would never find one willing to do so. Do you advocate as strongly against that as you do against this surgery that isn’t done?
What other things that aren’t done do you think it shouldn’t be a big deal to specifically prohibit?

Let’s try an experiment. Let’s say that Ed Zotti posts an announcement in ATMB and makes it a sticky. The announcement says, “From this point further, filmore is no longer allowed to say disparaging things about women, glorify rape, slander people of various races, advocate for conspiracy theories about 9/11 and election fraud, spread antisemitic propaganda, and shame people in the LGBTQ+ community.”
You’re already not doing any of those things, so such an announcement placed as a sticky on the board for everyone wouldn’t bother you at all, right? No harm done.
How do the laws prevent a doctor from doing genital reassignment surgery but allow them to do breast reduction and hormone treatments? It seems like genital reassignment surgery is in line with the other treatments.
As for the pinky toe removal, there’s not a community of people encouraging pinky toe removal. Perhaps a more accurate analogy would be the deaf community promoting hearing loss surgery. That may be the right choice for some people, but it’s a big decision that should be made when someone is more mature. Kids often are very passionate about desires that fade as they get older. For things like breast reduction and hormone treatment, it’s no big deal either way and it greatly helps in how the world sees them. Genital surgery is more personal and the world generally won’t know either way, so I don’t see it as as much of a critical treatment for a teen.
There doesn’t seem to be any constraints on who can make the challenge either.
I wonder how long it will take for someone to make a mockery of the law by challenging the gender of the entire football team. Will they force these boys to have their genitals inspected? Or will they refuse to comply with the law and say “oh, you know who we mean”
Because doctors are not, and should not be, controlled by laws made by politicians, but by the medical community that releases guidelines and standards. The guidelines and standards for doctors in the US is not to do genital surgery for gender reassignment on minors.
Somehow, they manage to not fall into whatever hypocrisy trap that you think you have so cleverly concocted.

You are making much weeping and gnashing of teeth about a practice that is not done. Is there a reason for this? Are you actually this ignorant, or are you willfully ignorant and doing your best to spread it?
This is the typical transphobic line of argument. “Let’s make up something that’s obviously undesirable and that isn’t actually happening, and claim that it is happening and that our opponents are OK with it”.
It’s one of the two standard Republican base-energizing formulaic lies. The other one is:
“Let’s talk about something that is obviously undesirable and that is actually happening because we are doing it, and make outraged allegations that our opponents are doing it.”
I’m just a normal person. And like most people, I have a set of assumptions. If I’m wrong about this, then it behooves the trans community to spread the message that genital reassignment surgery does not happen before 18. Get the message out so that lots of normal people understand that trans therapies are more about hormone therapy and not genital reassignment surgery. I’m not a proxy for all people who believe this. Changing my mind won’t change anything in society. If I think this, then that’s indicative of a larger problem with messaging around trans issues. I’m sure it feels good, but the ad hominem attacks and insults aren’t a great way to go about informing people.
And if it’s just “medical guidelines” that prevent this, I think it should be more formalized. There’s not a national “medical guidelines” that everyone has to conform to. If a specific medical community agrees that genital surgery in kids is okay, then it would be okay in that medical community. There are all different medical communities which promote vastly different medical treatments.
Oops. I just realized that this could be read as “promoting surgery to cure hearing loss”. I meant it as “promoting surgery to remove hearing ability”. For some people that would be the right thing, like someone with sensory issues. Being deaf could greatly improve their life. But for others, it might be something they are doing because they feel it’s right in the moment but not for the long term.
