And drag queen story time is invitation designed for kids. I’ve never been to one. It probably does have a subtext of teaching kids that drag isn’t scary.
And who’ll think about all the straight, cis-gendered storytellers and bingo-callers being forced out of their jobs? /s
It’s times like this that I regret being an atheist, since I can’t enjoy the smug satisfaction that comes with the thought of people like Robertson finally realizing that god doesn’t like false prophets profiting off his name. May he rot in non-existance doesn’t have the same kick as may he burn in hell.
A few years ago I was at a festival in Cincinnati that ended with a family-friendly drag show. The kids were the most fun part of it—they were completely into it and loved every minute.
I’ve also seen drag performances in places where kids weren’t explicitly kept out, like Pride festivals and drag brunches. They were appropriate, or at least no more inappropriate than anything else going on, unless you consider drag itself to be inappropriate.
That’s the evil of these laws. They redefine any drag performance to be adult content in and of itself.
If your state passed a law prohibiting kids at Hooters, would you really risk opening a Hooters?
Well, you sure as hell wouldn’t open one in the kind of strip mall or busy commercial strip where they’re commonly located. Too much risk of a family wandering in. In fact, you’d probably have to close most of your current locations. For all the revenue you’d lose, you may as well just pack it in.
And your critics would say, See? Hooters was always about perverting kids!
I’m a Christian so I can only imagine the shit that fucker is going through right now.
Hieronymus Bosch had some good ideas.
One of the reasons I stopped being a Christian is specifically because I would find no joy in the eternal torment of others, no matter how odious I found them in this life.
That was one of my reasons as well. Infinite punishment for a finite sin sound like a real dick move.
Well, you’re talking about a deity who’d send bears to tear apart children just because they made fun of one of his prophets.
For being bald.
Oh, well, in that case, perfectly justified! The nerve of those kids!
Seems about right for a deity who’d consider Lot an upright, moral man – you know, the guy who offered to shove his virgin daughters outside for a mob to have at, just to protect some visiting bigwigs.
At least the drunken incest wasn’t his idea.
I guess you’re right on that. Just some more good Biblical family values.
It kinda gets worse,
Along with the accounts of Tamar and Judah (Genesis 38:11–26) and Ruth and Boaz (Ruth 3:7–8), this is one of three instances of “sperm stealing” in the Bible, in which a woman seduces a male relative under false pretenses in order to become pregnant. Each case involves a direct ancestor of King David.
Lot (biblical person) - Wikipedia
Ya know, David, the ancestor of Jesus.
What false pretense did Ruth use?
Ruth told Boaz that he was a close relative of her dead husband, and so had a right to marry her. But it turned out there was another man of closer relation. Boaz went to the man to tell him the situation, but the man said he wasn’t interested, which cleared Boaz to marry her. (He did and they had 3 children.)
I don’t know if she was being deceptive in that she knew there was another man with a better claim, and was lying by omission, or if she didn’t know. It could also have been that her deception was in surprising him in the middle of the night, especially when he had eaten and drunk his fill, and might have been more susceptible to her charms.
But she honestly did want to marry him, and by the law at the time it was acceptable (though again, he did have to clear it with one other person first), so this doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.
Of course, in fact David was Joseph’s ancestor, so biologically not an ancestor. Although, since Joseph married Mary with knowledge that she was pregnant, perhaps by law/tradition he counts.
When it comes to Jewish lineage I’m not sure it works that way, but I’m open to being corrected.
