I am aware of and agree with everything you wrote after the first sentence. Still, my intentionally pointed question stands.
And my point is that it doesn’t seem like it does. The side effects listed all have mitigations, which would mean they would not have permanent effects assuming properly handled treatment.
I already covered the need to take more calcium and such to help with bone density. And the side effect list itself already says that the fertility issue depends on when the medicine is started–ergo the mitigation would be to take the medication at the appropriate time.
And the “incomplete genital development” is about skin on the penis and scrotum, and is apparently only an issue if the person does go on to transition and exchange their penis for a vagina. So that’s not a permanent issue for someone assigned male at birth who decides to remain male (or otherwise chooses not to replace their penis).
The Mayo Clinic article is written by medical professionals. I’m pretty sure they would notice if they had clearly contradicted themselves. I propose that the fact that these side effects can be mitigated are why they do not consider them permanent changes.
At the end of the day, they’re the experts, not us.
Still there were fewer total guns and the kids were likely being supervised and trained. As opposed to the age of many more guns and “adults” just having guns lying around and the nets propagating celebrations of armed yahooism.
This may be the case, but I have my doubts. Today, in 2023, we have cities where it’s super difficult to even own a gun, and due to education via news stories, I think most people are really careful with their firearms and have them locked away. My guess is that a MUCH higher percentage of gun owners use gun safes and locks today than 50 years ago. So, I think access to a gun was probably greater in the past. I think you are absolutely correct that proper training is a factor. I think the increase in kids using guns goes to something deeper in society. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something that causes kids today to want to grab a gun and kill people more than in decades past. Is it video games? The drugs some kids are given for behavioral problems? Something else? I wish we knew.
I think most people are really careful with their firearms and have them locked away.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA, if only there was a thread in the Pit that could attempt to show how stupid that idea is…
Tons of people are mad at Ne Yo because he said something offensive to the trans community, then was made to apologize.
Can’t people speak their peace without being bullied into apologizing? Its like we now have opinion police.
Its like we now have opinion police.
I think it’s more like everyone is entitled to an opinion, and that includes having an opinion about someone else’s opinion.
Ne Yo wasn’t forced to apologize, rather he chose to, because there isn’t an opinion police.
I think the old saying is that you’re of course allowed to express your opinions, as long as you’re willing to accept the consequences of expressing them. That is how it has always been for human history.
At least he doesn’t live in a place where there are literally opinion police, then he’d be in legal trouble.
Yeah, what kind of monsters are these trans people expecting people to apologize for saying something offensive to the trans community! It’s like they think they’re entitled to the same respect everyone else is!
Honestly, sometimes the truth is offensive.
I can’t tell if you’re being serious here or fooling around.
Assuming you’re serious for a second, what did Ne Yo say that was true but offensive?
Your question is unanswerable. Like (the aforementioned) asking what’s the line between having brown hair and brown eyes.
Layman summaries should be accurate, especially in medicine (or in any area where health is at risk)
That would be awesome. Speaking of which, read many layman’s summaries about medical issues relating to covid?
A) There were simply far fewer trans kids in the ‘50s.
Are you aware that all the trans kids in the 50s were in the closet, and we don’t have any statistics about them? A friend who investigated his gender identity in his 40s said he felt really out of place, because there were two communities. There were people in their twenties who were open about their trans status, and seeking medical help. And there were people in their 60s who were retiring and finally could afford to come out, awkwardly talking with their spouse, and kids. A lot of them have been miserable for years. And yeah, some of them got drunk and drove down the wrong side of the highway late one night. Hell, i had a gay coworker whose parents didn’t accept his sexuality who jumped off a bridge to his death one New Year’s Eve, and at the funeral, his family was still in denial and described it as an accident.
Yes, I am. I was crafting a hypothetical and chose to make it as simple as I could in order to pose a question. How is that not obvious?
Your hypothetical is nonsensical. Someone’s gender is separate from their sexuality. A trans man is not necessarily attracted to women, and their identifying as a man has absolutely nothing to do with their orientation.
Your hypothetical is about as “simple” as asking whether a Great Dane can live on grass instead of dogfood since it’s almost the size of a cow. It’s a complete nonsequitor.
but there’s something that causes kids today to want to grab a gun and kill people more than in decades past. Is it video games?
Oh, you have GOT to be fucking kidding me. The early 90s called, they want their moral panic back. Ooh! Maybe it’s satanic kindergarten cults making the kids conjure guns out of the ether!
Ne Yo wasn’t forced to apologize, rather he chose to, because there isn’t an opinion police.
I think the old saying is that you’re of course allowed to express your opinions, as long as you’re willing to accept the consequences of expressing them. That is how it has always been for human history.
Right. Once upon a time, even, if you said something offensive to someone you were expected to either take it back or fight a duel to someone’s possible death over it.
…
(And how come it’s cancel culture and opinion policing to demand an apology from Ne Yo, but not so to boycott Bud Lite?)
Oh, you have GOT to be fucking kidding me.
Since this is the Pit, I can openly say that magellan01 has been posting things that look a hell of a lot like trolling.
It’s one thing to disagree, and that’s okay. But some of these ideas are so crazy that I don’t think they’re sincere.
Honestly, sometimes the truth is offensive.
OK so suppose an well known celebrity comes out and supports legislation that adopted children should be taken away from Jewish parents because they are in danger of having their blood used to make Matzah. What should be the reaction of the community at large? Should they just shrug their shoulders and say well I guess it takes all kinds, sometimes the truth hurts y’know.
Since this is the Pit, I can openly say that magellan01 has been posting things that look a hell of a lot like trolling.
I agree. His whole “but what’s the difference between a feminine gay person and a trans person, anyways” schtick has got to be trolling, I doubt he’s actually THAT stupid and it’s perfectly targeted to be offensive.
I doubt there would be shoulder shrugging. I think he implied little children cannot legitimately decide they are the wrong sex. This is offensive to many, but I am in agreement with it. That isn’t hate speech or an attack. Its an opinion which many share. I noted his apology said If I caused any offense, so he wasn’t admitting wrongness though I am sure an apology, such as it is, is meaningless to those who disagree with him, and how dare he not toe the line!
And many people believe that the Jews use the blood of Christians to make Matzah, and they hold their belief just as strongly as those who believe that kids can’t know their own gender. Yes it was a non-apology that is meaningless, but that wasn’t your complaint. Your complaint was that he got flack from the “opinion police” for his hateful views. The same way that my claimant would get flack from the “anti-semetism” police, and might feel the need to make an apology that he was sorry to any Jews he offended might need to educate himself better about the traditions of Judaism.
I doubt there would be shoulder shrugging. I think he implied little children cannot legitimately decide they are the wrong sex. This is offensive to many, but I am in agreement with it.
God, I can’t imagine how tiring it would be to live in this world as a Trans person, with fucked up assholes like yourselves constantly shoving themselves where they do not belong and imposing their view on others.
I’m glad you got through your childhood and puberty without any sort of crippling gender dysphoria. Unfortunately, not everyone in the world was as lucky as you were, to be born in a body that matches their subjective experience. That sounds like a miserable problem to have, especially when people like you insist that they know better than medical professionals and that any help those medical professionals is wrong.
Fuck off with your fake concern.
