I think that part of their job is to put laws in place that protect people. Naturally, they need to listen to experts and make sure they understand what the consensus is, how it became the consensus, and the arguments which challenge that consensus. It appears that in countries that have been ahead of the U.S. in this are now rethinking things. And good for them. Hell, things should slow down just due to the knowledge gaps around bone density and brain development.
They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.
I’d recommend you do some introspection and think about why you are so eager to stick to a fringe interpretation of the evidence, but I know that introspection is hard and uncomfortable, and you’ve made it clear you are not interested in doing so.
He’s just having a wank at trolling you lot. Nothing more nothing less.
All of them. I must say, that this particular complaint, persistent as it is on these boards, makes me snicker. With all the smart people here on the SDMB (and I mean that seriously) people seem to expect evidence that pushes back against a main stream narrative to appear in the very places that push (rightly or wrongly) the narrative.
Her’s another cite with interesting information which you can summarily dismiss because it’s not Media Matters Approved®.
Neither is the idea that the Earth is flat, that there’s little green men living in canals on Mars, that homeopathic medicine works, or that the queen of England was a reptilian shapeshifting alien. And yet, you challenge the consensus on the question of gender affirming care, but not those other issues. I wonder why this is? I wonder if YOU have given any thought to why that is?
Ah, another expert from The Kreskin Institute of Telepathic Psychotherapy. Thanks for the diagnosis. You know, if the cites I’ve provided, as well as that from chela, don’t even give you pause, you really need to step back and take a break. The science that you espouse to be all-guiding laughs at such intransigence. It’s not static. Do you really think that all the information from my and chela’s sites have nothing to offer? That all the information is of zero value. That’s its all the product of transphobes?
Because the stakes are high and the science is both young and, at this point, suspect. Did you watch the video I posted on the how we got where we are with trans care for children?
Yes. Your cites are garbage.
Which they have shown absolutely no interest in. They are silencing any voices that disagree with them and trying to throw parents in jail for trying to treat their children with what is the current consensus treatment. This isn’t about science its about hate.
They aren’t slowing things down, they are banning the treatments.
They are going against the consensus and only going with the arguments that challenge that consensus. So, do you think State Senator Bumfuck is a better expert than the AMA? And, why are they so hyperfocused on trans care and not, say, dementia care, weight loss care, plastic surgery, cancer care, all of which have changing consensus, occasional regrets, etc.?
It’s a rhetorical question – it’s because they are transphobes. There’s no other reason why this particular set of medical treatments is getting so much attention. In fact, they make exceptions for medical treatments done on babies that really do long term damage and disfigurement, so they aren’t focused on protecting children at all. (No, not circumcision, I’m talking about surgery to “correct” intersex children).
So you believe treatment for trans kids is so extra special that it should be treated by law as a special category that NO OTHER MEDICAL TREATMENT exists in? So, for this and ONLY this treatment, the wishes and recommendations of parents and medical professionals should be subordinate to politicians?
This isn’t credible. This is being driven by hatred of trans people (and the politics of using hate and fear for votes), not desire to protect children. It’s no different than the many, many other-ings before.
Did you watch the video I posted? If so, what parts of id do you think are wrong or misleading?
The 26-minute video? Perhaps you could summarize for those of us with short attention spans.
Did you watch this youtube video about how they faked the moon landings? They have someone who was a department head at the company that made NASA’s rockets and he says he’s seen secret documents showing there was no way they could make it to the moon. It’s pretty convincing stuff. I trust him way more than those other NASA scientists who clearly have an agenda.
ETA: please don’t respond regarding the content of that video what with the hijacks to the Biden Laptop, chemotherapy and the opioid epidemic the last thing we need is to start debating the moon landing.
Again. Your cites are contradicted by an overwhelming majority of much more credible cites. How come that doesn’t give YOU pause?
Moon landing? Now that you bring it up…
No, the video relates the history of of trans care got to where it is.
And has as much value as a cite as the one I posted.
It does. But I’m particularly interested in what the latest information is. We, as a society, have not been looking at how to treat trans kids for long. You seem to think we got it right since the first time a well-meaning doctor thought puberty blockers were a good idea, and anything that doesn’t champion that is from Conspiracy World. And I understand that it can be very difficult for experts, and expert publications, to even entertain thinking that questions the status quo. But whether you approve or not, it does appear that there is movement globally that will change the trajectory. You’re free to chalk all that up to transphobia, but that doesn’t make it so.
Which information was incorrect?
I am chalking it up to that, because there are new medications, treatments, and procedures all the time, and controversial ones at that, and somehow, the state legislatures can resist getting involved. They are fine with leaving it up to the medical boards, medical professionals, patients, and their caregivers. Why is this treated differently? Because there’s a Republican war on transgender people.
