No, this is where people complaining about the Republican war on transgender people are currently posting. And you just brought up the favorite topic of people attacking those who are transgender.
The issue is not the exact medical state of a trans athlete, the issue is that Trump is threatening to withhold all federal funding to California because a single athlete qualified for a state tournament.
This topic is sucking up all the air in the room because a couple of high school girls might not get a medal this year in a tournament that Donald Trump wouldn’t attend without a million dollar payday attached.
To give you a better answer than your misplaced question deserves, no, there isn’t. The standards vary by sport and venue. So, most professional sports, and major competitions like the Olympics, have picked some standard. (Which may vary, depending on the sport and the governing organization.) Most “casual” events, like elementary school kick ball, go purely by how the athlete identifies. No event for children under 18 expects anyone to have undergone surgery. For reasons that should be obvious.
Under 18 - no legitimate doctor will perform any form of gender surgery related to gender dysphoria i.e. “trans surgery”. People born intersex are a different matter, but even that is less common these days (and to be clear, intersex people are NOT trans, although they are frequently lumped in with them)
Under 18 athletes may, in states where it is still permitted, take “puberty blockers” to avoid going through undesired changes prior to being allowed to decide for themselves if they want top or bottom surgery (not all trans people get all possible surgeries due to expense, medical risks, or other reasons). A person assigned male at birth on puberty blockers will not have the advantages brought by testosterone like increased muscle mass. They might grow taller than average, but that’s as much due to having a prolonged length of time in which to grow compared to peers going through puberty earlier than they are as to chromosome make up or other factors.
As others have noted, standards vary at this point in time.
For the record I have always found @Dinsdale to be polite, reasonable and knowledgeable. I thought his question was sincere whether or not it was in the wrong thread. I have no idea what you are referring when you say he’s a “known quantity” but your over-the-top response was uncalled for in my opinion.
Dibble’s whole deal is getting off on conflict. Needling people and taking offense to everything. It gets to the level of trolling on occasion. That’s why I finally had to put the asshole on ignore.
On the other hand, I had the sense this might be an honest question even if poorly worded and demonstrating some misunderstanding, which is why I chose to answer it as if it were serious.
If nothing else, it might help someone else who had a similar question.
People who prize politeness over character can also get fucked. It’s one of the reasons we had so many racists and misogynists around here for so long.
Ask ASLv2.0 how reasonable and polite he really is. Or anyone with a mental issue who ever passed through his court, for that matter…
Me, has on ignore. This asshole, though, he’s apparently now just fine defending… what a difference 3 years makes.
Yeah, he’s been a dick/bigot in certain ways. I want to believe it’s just ignorance, but it’s sure a whole LOT of ignorance, especially given his job.
MrDibble is definitely more angry and mean a lot, but I totally get his reaction. I don’t think it’s fair to see the black African who is harsh on bigotry like he’s the guy who is trying to start shit.
Dinsdale genuinely should have known better than to post that stuff in here. I make no judgement on whether it was ignorance or malice.
I just have a lot more sympathy for the angry people who have faced a lot of bigotry in their life being harsh about it.
Tennessee’s law {SB1} bans puberty blockers and hormone treatments for transgender minors but allows the same drugs to be used for other purposes.
…
Doctors may prescribe puberty blockers and hormone therapy to minors of any sex to treat some disorders, but not those relating to transgender status, he {Chief Justice John Roberts in a 24-page majority opinion} wrote.
Or, simply, gender-affirming care for us but not for YOU.
The Trump administration has announced that it will deny retirement benefits to all transgender members of the Air Force who are being involuntarily forced to retire due to their cruel policies that were sanctioned by the Supreme Court.
