Repulsion anyone? (the movie that is, not the band)

This is the one movie that seriously gives me the creeps - and that I have been in love with ever since I saw it for the first time ca. 1997-98. As brilliant as it is terrifying.

Any other fans? Or am I alone in this place? Would you like a manicure?

I’ve wanted to see it ever since I found out the Cardigans ‘Hanging Around’ film clip is based on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnFB7dqe9vo

Is it available on DVD at the moment?

It’s the only movie creepy enough to make me walk out of the theater. At the point where she puts her hands on the walls and they give way like putty.I did finally watch the whole thing on cable years later.

Another fan here. Whenever one of my friends asks for recommendations for “creepy mindfuck-type films” *Repulsion *is always part of the list.

Needless to say, I’ve watched the whole thing several times. Gotta love/fear

the suddenly cracking wall

too.

Actually I went on a Roman Polanski kick a while back and didn’t get Repulsion because the Region 1 DVD sucked. But it is about to be released (end of July) as a Criterion Collection DVD, so now is the best time to be interested in viewing it.

Totally excellent movie. Great feeling of the walls closing in - just like the other Polanski movies The Tenant and Rosemary’s Baby.

Now, it’s become a bit of a dramatic/horror staple to have the last shot of the movie be a camera slowly tracking or zooming into a photograph that lends an additional dose of irony or dread to the proceedings. It’s been used since (most memorably in The Shining), but I don’t remember it ever being done before Repulsion, nor to better effect. It’s one last healthy creep-out after everything truly disturbing that happens before it.

I hadn’t seen this movie so I looked it up on Youtube specifically for this scene. Holy crap, that is mega creepy:eek::eek:
