Request for a new smilie

Fenris, I like your barfing one better than mine. But I still like my dichotamous one.

Thanks!

I like they dichotamous one too and I see a lot of times a dichotomy smily would be useful. But as much as I like it, I like your “blushing” one more. I say we adopt 'em all!

Maybe we could call 'em

:yuk: = yukky face
 = blushy face
hmmm…
:torn: = dichotomy face?

Fenris

Fenris, friedo. Those are great.

I gotta agree with you there, on both counts. Dichotamous! Now that’s a hoot.
N’kay, I gotta give this a shot too. Here are mine:Bboy’s smilies I used a pea-green color to depict nausea. I also made a third smilie that you kids might like.

tshirts, I don’t know anything about the transparent part, can you fix these?, if they get voted in, that is…

Here’s a smilie I made:

evil grin (shaded and unshaded)

I just looked at the shaded one again, and the conversion messed up the coloration. It may take awhile before it looks like it’s supposed to.

Glad to help!

They are added to the page with all the others
http://geocities.com/proposedsmilies/"

They all look really good.

[except Reuben’s is “not found”. Reuben, did you erase or rename it?]

I fixed the shading, but I had to keep it as a .bmp file to do it, which means it no longer has a transparent background. (I don’t really have any good graphics programs.) I also made three more smilies: a sour face, a love one, and a tired one. The three of them and the fixed evil grin are here: smilies

Tshirts, would it be possible to convert these to gifs and fix the backgrounds?

[Note added upon previewing: It seems that Netscape (or at least Netscape 4.7) won’t display bitmap files. IE (4.0) displays the linked page fine, though. Tshirts, if your browser won’t load them, I can e-mail them to you.]

Heyall, Here’s an update: Bboy’s smilies. I’ve added a couple more of the KISS guys just for the sake of variety. Might as well send your favorite one, right?
The background color changed during the upload process. Can you believe it? Will that make any difference for the conversion process?
Thanks for including me on the proposed smilies page.

tshirts:
What a great page!

One request: Could you change the :something: labels of mine from :barfy: , :barfy2: ,& :barfy3: to :yuk: , :yuk2: and :yuk3: ?

Thanks!!

Fenris

Sorry, Fenris, if I could vote for only one smiley I’d vote for the dichotomy one. Next I’d want P’s evil grin and sleepy smilies. I don’t feel a need for a yuk smiley. But you deserve to get your smiley up just for getting TubaDiva’s attention, sigh. :>(

I’ve added one more to my page

It’s a suspicious smiley

Fenris

Protesilaus- transparency added. I like the love and tired. I could use those a lot.
Bboy- transparency added to new faces
Fenris- Thanks. I like :suspicious: AKA :paranoid:

I just realized why it can’t be named** :paranoid: - it conflicts with ** :**p: **stick out tongue

Hey Fenris, Your ‘suspicious’ smilie is great. It should get a lot of use.
I was inspired in another thread this evening, to create a couple more.
I’m betting you will all find someplace where you can use these…Bboy’s updated (yet again) smilies page

tshirts, can you add these too, and work your magic on them so they are compatible? Thanks again.

They look great.

If you want a good smilie and icon tool, get the free sample download of Microangelo. (It’s good for 30 days, but after that the program still runs, with just some nag messages.)

It is one of my favorite programs for small images.
It has a screen capture to pull images off the web, does a good job of resizing and color-reducing, and has a good method of creating desktop and cursor icons. It has all the colors of the palette visible at once, too, so it’s a lot easier getting the exact color you used before.

And of course it has that special clear color right in the palette.

AHA! NOW HE TELLS ME!!

Thanks for the tip on the graphics utility. I’m gonna go and get it right now. I have been using Paint Shop Pro. I like it a LOT, but it doesn’t have the clear color thingie…at least not that I know of.

Thanks also for the kind words.

I think (but am not certain) that in most image-editing software, transparancy is only an option when you save something as a GIF. In the “save” window, there’ll be a button for “GIF options”, where you can set some particular color to transparent. They do it this way because most image formats, including JPEG and bitmaps, don’t support transparency, and they don’t know how you’re going to try to save it.

I was looking at the crying and angelic emoticons on there . . . something struck me about them. The ones offered by Kyberneticist are also used by AIM. So they may be copyrighted; I don’t know for sure, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

BTW, the other crying ones look good, except the tear is triangular and it looks odd. if you took off the lowerleft pixel and lowerright pixel, that might help it out a bit. IMO:)

The smilie from Kyberneticist is not copyrighted. (BTW He sent it to me because you’d said the ones I made were too small.) It also is like the ones that come with some Borland C compiler libraries, etc.

I’ll take another look at the ones with tears, but they were pretty tough. There’s not much room on that small face for a tear. As it is, they can’t be done with whole pixels of black, because there isn’t room. So I did them with an intermediated shade that’s half gold, a technique called anti-aliasing, that’s used on most fonts but does rely on blur to “split a Bit”.

Don’t want to nag, but you did say we should, and it’s been 6 weeks.
