I’m relatively new to this board, and I think I made a mistake on the Café Society, new comics topic thread (for 5/11/05). I posted twice by accident, once with the spoiler tags, and once without. Please delete the post without the spoiler tags, I don’t want to screw up another readers experience by mistake.
The best way to do this is to report the offending post with a note explaining what’s wrong with it, which I’ve now done for you. Because you can’t report your own posts, it’s generally accepted that you should report the post either directly above or below the offending post with a note explaining which post you need fixed (using the post number) and why.
This seems an opportune time to ask a question that’s I’ve had for awhile. If one wants to reports one’s own post (which we can’t) is it considered josher to report one of the other posts in the thread with a comment about which post really needs the attention? or better to submit another post asking a kindly passer-by to report it for you?
Easiest is to report the post above or below, and in your explanation, be very clear which post you mean and what the problem was.
The REPORT POST button gives the Moderator a direct link and thus saves searching time, so it’s better than starting a new thread. It is therefore superior to starting a new thread somewhere asking for help, or just sending an email with no link.
In the usual correction, you want speed. You reporting another post and providing clear instructions is faster than you posting again to alert folks to your error, then waiting for someone to see it and report the post. And, of course, leaves fewer footprints if the correction is a simple one.
