"Rescue Me" question re The Widows

Is it really a no-no for firefighters to have relationships with widows of firefighters, or is it a plot device?

Gavin willingly took a beating when his crew found out he’d been sleeping with Jimmy’s widow, not because he was mistreating her, but just because she was a widow, and you don’t keep company with the widows.

Seems sort of perverse to me.

I don’t think it was for sleeping around with a widow, but with one of 9/11 widows.

Just my take on it.

Could be.

I didn’t see the pilot. Jimmy died on 9/11?

I’ve read that the show is authentic, but the widow ban seems unrealistic and contrived.

They lost four guys on 9/11, Jimmy being one of them. It wasn’t in the pilot though, we only see a small flashback about 5 episodes in.

Who’s also his sister-in-law.

Lute:

Your point?

Yeah, it’s kinda wierd.

Maybe the problem is that Gavin was fooling around with widow, but not in love or planning to marry her.

Earlier in the series, they rattled off a list of women that you have to ask for permission: wife, ex-wife, girlfriend, ex-girlfriend, sister, sister-in-law, etc.

Since Jimmy is dead, Gavin could not ask for permission first.

cousin-in-law. Jimmy was his cousin, not his brother.

Still -
the impression I got is that it was all widows. Lieu is keeping his relationship with that one guy’s widow (we saw him die - very much after 9/11) a secret, too.

Okay, guess I confused the character with the actor.

I remember that – it was funny. It sure narrowed their choices, didn’t it?
