Well, Irishman has the solution, if I could only train myself to do it that way. And Mind’s Eye, it will probably never be fixed. Yes, annoying, but it seems to go in cycles. I had months of never having it happen and now it has been happening nearly daily for the past month. Maybe the next cycle will be along soon.

Sadly, I disagree. I use that pattern - I go to the main forum list and open tabs for the sub-fora that I want to read. Then I go to each of those and open tabs for the threads I want.
When I get ‘zapped’, it’s almost always before I can finish opening the sub-foras…so within mere seconds of getting to the main forum list.
Indeed, it’s only a solution if you don’t get zapped away, and I for one almost always get zapped right away. Like this morning – logged in, saw my last visit was about 30 hours ago, clicked on User CP to see the latest Subscribed Thread updates … but when it loaded, Zap! Last visit was NOW, and there are no Subscribed Thread updates. Although actually, I count 18 have been posted to since my last visit.

I’m not sure what you mean by making a difference. But doesn’t the Board log you out automatically anyway if there’s been no activity for 30 minutes?

No. I don’t get logged out. I wondered if there people had experienced fewer episodes of being zapped if they log out.
As I’ve mentioned before, it seems to improve things for me if I always explicitly log out and never select that box that lets you stay logged in. Getting zapped is now quite rare for me (not saying that would necessarily be the case for others). I now frequently get a different problem where I have to repeatedly log in before it will actually recognize that I am logged in, but that doesn’t screw up the last visited date; it just means it may take several tries to get logged in.

A couple of times, I’ve taken more than 30 minutes to compose a lengthy and/or thoughtful post, only to find I’ve been logged out when I tried to hit Submit. The explanation given to me was that the Board logs you out after 30 minutes of inactivity.
However, there have also been times I’ve forgotten to log out and found myself still logged in a couple of hours later. So, I dunno.
I hadn’t been here for a couple of months, for a variety of reasons. Even though I’d reverted to ‘Guest’, I was still logged in.
Define “still logged in.” If your browser is set to log you in automatically and you don’t manually log out, that does not mean the server is “keeping” you logged in on its side all the time.
By all means, if there are experts in the admin functions of the software, correct me, but all my investigations of how this works matches Sam’s experience–if the board does not see any activity for you for a certain amount of time (30 minutes was default, I believe), it assumes you’re gone, and updates the Last Visited time to your last known activity.
I never log out. I’m not entirely sure I remember what my password is, and haven’t been asked for it in months, if not years.
I get the reset thing constantly. I’d say that roughly 80% of my visits get whacked with it before I manage to get through all the fora. It’s intensely irritating, but we’ve been complaining about it for years, and nothing at all has even been attempted. It’ll never be addressed.

If you didn’t click the “Remember Me” box when you logged in, the board will log you out after some period of inactivity. If you click that box, it should remember you forever or until you log out, whichever comes first.
I had NEW weird thing today.
My process is to go into subforums and right click on the new post icon and open the thread in a new tab. Then when I’ve opened all the interesting threads, I go back to the main page and go to the next subforum. When I’ve got them all open, I read them.
So today, Cafe Forum was all marked as new. General Questions was marked as read. Game Room Unread. The order I opened them in, so it’s not like the first ones I opened were fine and it zapped me mid-opening.
