Resevoir Dogs - It's 6 guys, not 5.

Why on earth do they keep saying “5 guys”. There are clearly 6 guys.

White, Blonde, Blue, Pink, Brown, Orange.

Whats the deal? Anyone else notice it?

Maybe they’re not counting Tim Roth?

Or whichever one died in the robbery.

There are actually 8 “dogs” involved in the heist, counting Joe and Nice Guy Eddie, but only 5 principle characters show up at the warehouse: White, Orange, Blonde, Pink and the cop. Most of the action and dialogue in the movie is between those 5 guys in the warehouse.

Who are “they”? The actors in the film? The mediocre hamburger sellers? Critics? Yo (collective) mammas?

There is Joe’s “joke” at one point in the movie:

So evidently there were only five guys directly in on the caper. Maybe one of the six in the slow walking scene wasn’t directly in on the robbery.

The poster is missing Mr. Brown (Tarantino) who is the only Mr. Color not to make it back to the warehouse. Tarantino was probably the one to approve the poster design and for some reason didn’t want to appear on it.

Mr. Blue didn’t make it the warehouse either. The other 4 knew Mr. Brown was dead, but had no idea what happened to Mr. Blue until Joe told them he was “Dead as Dillinger”.

That’s right. For some reason I was thinking of Chris Penn as one of the colors.

Cop = Marvin.

I assumed Joe was referring to his own past experience, or to other capers gone wrong that he knew something about.

Should I spoiler a movie this old?

It’s because Mr. Orange is a cop, and wasn’t really brought in FOR the heist. He’s there to set up Joe.

Of course, just my take.

Yes, thanks, it’s the polite thing to do. While I’ve seen it, I haven’t seen everything and appreciate your taking the time. Also, consider how many movies you’d watched by the time you were 25. How many cinema greats that had come out when you were only six years old? Today’s 25-year-olds were only 6 when RD came out.

Holy shit my math can’t be right. That makes me feel old!
Oh, so old that I still ask–who is the they the OP is referring to?

This poster is one such instance.

Ahhhhhhh… thanks!
